Squalors??? It was a problem with RTW, but now in M2TW they have alot less effect. I would love to answer you more on this but I'm not completely sure on what triggers it.
you can start from scratch, take a massive army outside of the city and take all your troops out.
Then attack the city when it becomes rebel and massacre the population, then build up the infrastructure that adds health and law bonus.

I don't find it a big problem but i would just like to tax my people at very high rates so I want my cities to run smoother. i never have enough florins.![]()

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a man a fishing rod... and he'll break it up for firewood, or swap it for a fish.

Oh and one important thing: Don't try to rule a huge city from a town hall... atleast get up to councills chamber and onwards.![]()
E:TW's natives have developed a new "Ballistic Automatic Detection And Seeking System" to utterly annihilate any European that sets foot on their soil... That's BADASS for short!
Aside from building larger walls and perhaps some other buildings (I'm not sure which if any), you can get a general with either characteristics or an ancillary (is it the architect?) which help. But squalor is not that such a problem - usually it just slows down growth for cities.
Squalor is caused by population size. Constructing buildings that add the health bonus will lower it, but on the other hand population growth will increase and thus increase squalor again anyway. When squalor starts to become a problem the least you can do is raising the garrison+ taxes to slow it down and stop building farms.
Just remember that in medieval times the cities weren't very clean...LOL!!
Meh. who cares about health
Actually I mostly build the buildings that give me money. Be sure to run low on the farms upgrades though - a 4% on 4k people already is high in my opinion. The problem is the people will act like rabbits and you're unable to suffiiciently grow the cities before you at least have some happyness buildings in. The Town Hall tech tree is a good one as it adds +10% per upgrade. Most other buildings do with +5% per upgrade...
I give castles the chivalric family members, just because they need the growth. Cities nearly never have to do that.
The townne hall tree does reduce squalor. I always build farms up to get the increase in population of the cities and castles that I really want to grow. More people means more trade and taxes; and, higher level buildings and better troops, ships, and characters.
