Independent Greeks SRG bodyguard
I've started a new campaign as the indiegreeks on N/N (after I got badly beaten up as the Seleucids on higher difficulty levels), and I've found the SRG-bodyguards to be of excellent use. They held Sparta vs pretty impressive Macedonian armies, and are now simply walking over the Peloponessos, without even taking serious losses...
Some of my other generals however preferred to fight on a horse, only to find themselves surrounded on the city square in an era full of pikes...
Hence my question: what are the triggers that decide whether one of my generals has SRG as bodyguard?
kind regards,
Andy

If I remember well, GCS family tree have a Spartan branch. So, generals descending from that branch of the family tree will get SRGs as bodyguards. Have a look at the faction members scroll for details.

Now that is an interesting device, I never knew that.
In my Maks campaign I felt bad having to wipe out the SRG, can't have them wondering about causing trouble though. I haven't played a GSC campaign yet but look forward to doing so.

Re: Independent Greeks SRG bodyguard
the really annoying thing is that the best general with SRG cant use shield wall. its replaced with the rally unit thing which is a massive disadvantage because i use my generals to defend sparta while i use my minions to invade crete and rhodes

Re: Independent Greeks SRG bodyguard
I am now living without shield wall so that isn't a problem. Its a worthy sacrifice for the better ALX features imo. Although hoplites get pretty slaughtered when they have no experience or anything.

SRGs are for both. its just that in alexander they dont have this shield wall ability that makes them much stronger

Re: Independent Greeks SRG bodyguard
I doubt it is a loss to not have the shield wall. After all, you have an above average Hoplite unit that automatically replaces the losses and leaves room for a lot of experience gain. So yeah, after a few dozen battles, they will be the oh-so wanted ultimate Spartans indeed.

Re: Independent Greeks SRG bodyguard
it is a massive loss. with shield wall you can conserve your units much more meaning they become infinitely more powerful during sieges and bridge battles. on a recent brdige battle i fended off 3000+ troops with 360 carthaginian sacred band. each unit had around 1000 kills and each lost around 60 men each. the enemy were mostly gallic swordsmen who are quite decent. i could not have done that without shield wall+guard mode.
