So, where's the follow up article saying "Iraq worse off since Sept. 2010" ?
Exactly. I really don't like that common "argument" to the issue of pulling Americans out of Iraq.
I just don't think pulling out a majority of our forces in a year and a half is a good idea. I really think it should be more spread out. I know most people, especially fellow Americans, hate that idea, but again, the reality is that we're already there, so let's make sure that when we do leave, we do everything right that we can up until then to ensure we don't have to consider/argue over whether or not to invade/leave it the hell alone if things go toagain.
It's a rough situation, and it's unfortunately one we can't just skip out of holding hands and leaving presents of kittens and daisies will make things pretty and happy over there.
That may be so, but sooner or later, the American public will allow the USA to invade YET another country. Then we are going to ask ourselves YET again Should we withdraw or stay and do the job?
Thisneeds to stop after Iraq.
Will history repeat itself?
Im leaning more towards yes.
its funny how when a bunch of muslims crash two planes into two huge symbols of american pride killing thousands of americans in the most horrific act of terrorism the modern world has seen while on live TV. yea its funny how an event like that would spark pro-war sentiment an allow those in power to "convince us" that someone has to pay. I am sure we could be convinced to invade another country....lets just call up north korea and ask them if they would deliver a suitcase nuke to DC. Just think, we could be invading NK next year...![]()
most?
that's good, but why not all?
Good on Obama for listening to Petraeus and the Pentagon on this one.
The combat portion of the war in Iraq is essentially over at this stage, and the residual footprint force of 35-50,000 is exactly what people have been saying would be left after the withdrawal of US combat forces for quite some time now.
Because the US has vested interests in maintaining a presence there. Just as it did in Germany, Japan, and Korea. Iraq is no different.Originally Posted by Exarch

Easy, who are the iraqi's more afraid of Americans? or Extremist insurgents? While we are there to back them up, they will engage the insurgents, we go, your going to see a whole lot of Iraqi soldiers ditching their uniforms and melding back into the population. I guarantee, they extremists are waiting for the time to be right to overthrow the government in Iraq and the Iraqi's in the military don't have the nuts to dig in and stand against it. I was there, I interacted with these guys, some Iraqi soldiers are idealists and believe in the mission, whereas most just wanted a job. Mark my words, once the withdrawl occurs we are going to see massive flashpoints all over that country, the 50,000 or so US troops left behind wont be able to contain it. Obama will have a choice, re engage in Iraq, or pull out completely. Most of the American public, will be against re deployment to Iraq in a large scale, so Obama will leave, the government will collapse the country will be all mad max, until one islamic leader rallies enough to his cause to snuff out the competition, boom Iran part 2.

What I'm saying is that we aren't god. We can't change the mindset of a people and we cannot change the course of a nation without the efforts of its own people. As long as the Iraqis don't really care much for a secular democracy, it will never happen. So staying there will just be a big waste of time, money, reputation, and lives.
