How to dismantle a n00b box

Besides chariot spam the most annoying thing in RTW is a n00b box full of spartans! it is not hard to defeat but is really annoying. i wanna know what everyone's favorite tactic for destroying these are.

1.Choose armenia

2.take 6 units of Cata archers and the same amount of Catas

3.take 4 armoured gens

4.put the cata archers on cant circle to kill the enemy archers, hen when they r killed target the rear of the hoplites

5.when arrows r gone, switch to maces and charge i spartan unit(preferably the weakest)

6.when they rout, do the same again.

7.and again.

8.and again.

9.and again and again and again until u win!

Archers...hit flanks and rear. Focus most of your arrows on one flank and holes will open. He will cover them and in doing so ruin his box. Just exploit the holes then.

I dont know abotu u guys but i find it funny when they keep reforming, usually when they do it leaves an opne flank. Archers on the rear of the noob box. i like to take out the archers and cavalry first cause then the box is defenseless. when there are so few left i like to give my melle units some fun so i do a final banzai :p

Aye, archers are the way to go when fighting a n00b box. I'm not so sure about charging cavalry into the phalanx units, though, unless the target phalanx has been almost completely decimated by archers.

Take a full complement of archers/slingers permitted under the rules - spread them out in thin lines on loose formation and let them destroy the enemy archers inside the box who will be more vulnerable to you than you to him, because they will have to deploy either on close-formation or else on loose and overlapping each other, and furthermore every time one of YOUR arrows overshoots or undershoots it's still going to hit something, while his return fire won't. Once they've been neutralised, mass all your fire on the exposed rear of one enemy unit at the far side of the box until you've dropped them to half-strength, then repeat with a new one until you're all out of ammunition, perhaps using incendiary arrows for a while as well. Then position troops as you like around the box, use up any javelins/pila/heads you have, then attack hard with your heaviest units on a hinge where one of the weakened units is located, and gnaw until he turns to respond, then slip more units behind them and so systematically crush each one as he breaks the box up.

If you're playing on "no rules", of course, just take some catapults.

I once did a battle video talking about noob boxes used as an opening-strategy - if anyone wants to watch it and the High Quality doesn't seem to be working on the embed, and it's all blurry, you'll need to click on it to go to Youtube and select High Quality manually.

I do as well.

But I wouldn't think that Carthage would be that popular as a noob-box faction because it doesn't have archers. If the guy takes slingers, they'll just shoot into the rear of his infantry because they have no trajectory.

Macedon, on the other hand, is another popular candidate.

meh i just torture em with arrows before ordering my infantry and cavalry to wipe out their army. ive never seen one of them boxes do any gd...

I just termanate if they break eney rule.

In one game a Heavensinbred member was rude beforehand I had alarm bells ringing.I said Gl hf he said gl hf ing n00b I said Excuse me?

Game starts he has a sparty spam and 2 onagers I politely tell him I said no art he says "just play ing n00b" I just termanated.

Take plenty of archers and take out his first
Put your archers on wide setting and massacre his all tightly packed together
Surround him and fire arrows into the rear of his phallanx's
When you are out of ammo march up your infrantry put them on auto fire and unload their pila
By then he has very little left so surround and destroy

8 Archers, gold weapon upgrade.
4 Horse archers.
Kill all cavalry with horse archers and maidens. Kill all archers with horse archers and archers. Blow up the square. Kick ass and chew bubblegum.
