    Default batch files

    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    ______________________________________________________________________

    V. USING MODIFIED FILES
    ______________________________________________________________________

    - To use the modified files create a batch file in your
    Medieval II: Total War folder

    - In the batch file add the following line

    medieval2.exe --io.file_first

    - NOTE: Due to a timestamp check, the following unpacked files will
    cause the game to crash and must be deleted before the game is
    launched:

    data\descr_geography_new.txt
    data\descr_geography_new.db

    - Save the batch file and then launch Medieval II: Total War using the
    newly created batch file.

    i want to use my own edb but the game won't load it. the unpacker readme says i need to create a batch file and blah
    how to create these files?

    with a text editor add the following to the top of medieval2.preference this file is read only so remove this attribute make your changes and make sure you reenable it or the game will set it back to its default setting.

    [io]
    file_first = 1

    [log]
    to = logs/system.log.txt
    level = * error

    tried that :hmmm:
    it makes the timurids have the lithuania horse on their banner, but still black
    also gives my russian captain and generals some sort of freaky models
    my guess is it takes the files from stainless steel or kingdoms ... maybe i should try..nvm!

    You have files conflicting with the vanilla version but at least you now know the IO file first thingie is working. You did make a backup of Medieval2 before installing any mods didn't you?, If not a complete uninstall of any Mods and then the Vanilla version is a sure way to fix things. After uninstalling everything go into Program Files and delete the Sega folder if it is still there as some files might have been left behind which could cause problems in the future.

    Not sure about that, wouldn't that cause even more problems?.

    i didnt save a "clean" version of m2tw sadly..i guess i would have to install everything from scratch
    also i hate messing around with thing like that:p i delete my whole m2tw folder then go to add and remove programs and just click "remove" on m2tw and all kingdoms campaigns

    That is unfortunate.

    Remember after uninstalling everything go into Program Files and delete the Sega folder, some files might have been left behind which could cause problems in the future.
    Have you tried these two Kingdoms mods?.

    sadly i don't have m2tw installed on C as it is only 25gb big
    also i do not need mods for kingdoms, im only playing vannila to try and retake the world from the timurids
    but for some random reason CA decided to not let the russians recruit dvor from the 4th range (they can only build 3) or drhuzina from the 5th barrack (they can only build 4) - that was the only thing i was trying to modify

    insert the lines below to export_descr_buildings and everything will be well. The marksmans_range building can recruit EE Peasant Archers but not Dvor what a cockup

    recruit_pool "Dismounted Dvor" 1 0.7 6 0 requires factions { russia, }

    i already did that!
    the only thing i was trying to do is make the game read my file instead the one in the pack - and you already told me how
