Default Can't win even the easiest of battles

A while ago when the game first came out, I was quite good at battles. Especially open field. I was able to quite easily win a battle 3:1 in favour of the enemy.

Now however I have been using a laptop and been auto resolving battles instead as I thought the laptop wouldn't be able to cope.

I've recently found out that it CAN run battles so I was overjoyed (obviously) but not so much when I realised I was losing fights that I would have easily won a while ago.

For example, I am playing as the Turks and had the Prince's bodyguard, 2x turkish horsearchers, 1x turkish archers and 1x spearmen militia.

Rebels had 2x armenian cavalry, 1x armenian archers and 2x spearmen militia sallying forth

Safe to say, I got humped. Like properly.

I seem to have lost my touch. Anyone have any advice as to how I should have played this situation?

    Thanks

(Battle difficulty is only on medium as well!)
(and all they did was come out of the gates and charge into me apparently at random, prefering to go for my general who seemed to like to try and walk away from their charge)
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a man a fishing rod... and he'll break it up for firewood, or swap it for a fish.

What version are you playing? 6.2 With Gracul's AI is meant to be harder. Other than that, I would have to say that it sounds like you need to work on your tactical skills. Armenian Cavalry are heavy, so two units could destroy both your horse archers and general, then circle back for more. It depends on how you approached the battle.

Sorry, I should have specified. I'm using the 4.1 version for the non kingdom medieval II

That fight doesnt sound like it would be easy even on vanilla, armenian cavalry are lethal, and horse archers once they run out of ammo are not much use apart from chasing down routing units.

I find that the autoresolve function can be overly in favour of the attacker in seiges, ive had times when ive auto-resolved a seige battle losing 20 men whereas when i played it myself i had lost that many simply from turret fire.

Be glad the game still has something in it to make things difficult for you, thats why many of us keep modding and downloading to keep a fresh challenge going
