damn fatal graphics error

damn i get the fatal graphics error and i haven't even started the damn game! any help would be appreciated!

What kind of graphics card do you have? Are the drivers up to date? What setting are you trying to play the game?

Don't you get that error for having vista sometimes?

I never did even though I crashed Vista the three months I had it on my computer. Medieval2 and Rome only crashed under Vista when I did something trying to mod a file but the graphics didn't crash.

actually i don't use vista. and my drivers are all up to date

The only problem with M2TW on Vista is people not taking the time to learn Vista.

True, but it's not hard to make adjustments to make older games work, unless they are from like 1998. Those are a lot harder to get working correctly on vista.

When you start up the game do you have several other things open? e.g msn, itunes etc.? Because this happend to me when i had "runescape" open and i was going to start medieval II total war.

And because your talking about vista. I got m2tw installed on my laptop which is vista and it works 100% without any problems at all.

i have a fx5500 but i can play company of heroes, cnc3 and ra3 just fine

The card should handle it. There is a thread on Nvidia's website about your card and a monitor this person is using causing problems. Might be a good idea to check out their forums, also.
