    Default Assassinating Faction Families

    Just a quick question.

If you were to assassinate an entire faction's family tree, would that faction then be destroyed?
Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a man a fishing rod... and he'll break it up for firewood, or swap it for a fish.

    yes.
if there are no living heirs, the faction would be destroyed.
all existing settlements of that faction would then go over to the rebels.

So you don't have to assassinate all male family members?

basically keep killing the princes and kings?

You certainly can. I greatly enjoy doing that, as it happens. Though it turns your leader into something of a dreadlord...

A combination of assassination and head-hunting family members in battle can be a far more interesting and appealing alternative to conquering lands you don't necessarilly want to occupy, in order to get rid of a particularly troublesome rival.

No, all family members need to be killed. When one king/heir is killed, another will take his place.

I personally found it quite difficult to assasinate a whole family tree. Wow that must be quite an investment in your assassination industry. I guess when I kill a lot of their family members and only the kings and heir is left, the king automatically gets a lot of adoptions(I guess its coded in the behavior) and replenishes his family tree faster than I can kill it.

Meh, once you've weakened a family/faction sufficiently you should be able to finish them with assassins. I currently have 6 assasins making their way to Vienna to finish off the HRE. (It has 13 units of silver chevrons, upgraded armour, dismounted fuedal knights and then the 3 generals with 35 and 32 man bodyguards for the Faction Leader and Heir.) Its not a big deal but if they whole up in the town square it will be a long and boring battle.

It's an easy and fun alternative to all out war.

Even though the odds are pretty bad even with a maxed out assassin.

It ain't easy, assassinating an entire family, but it sure is fun. I used over 20 assassins to kill the Mongols, and I walked out with 5 full-subterfuge assassins.

Nice going! Assassinating the Mongol family members is a common tactic used to beat them. CA probably should have protected them more from this somehow..

    You mean, make them invincible?
The only reason this is one of the most common tactics is because it's amongst the 2 or 3 that actually work!

The biggest problem with these tatics, like mentioned, is that it transforms your faction leader into a dread lord, completely ruining your faction's reputation, which makes even the simplest of dealings nearly impossible to achieve.
    Tis but a scratch.

AAAAAHHH!! that's why I usually have a bad reputation! Didn't consider this at all which is a little stupid. I just always build the assassin/spy buildings when there's nothing left to build which also gave me the adultress ancillary too.

If only I'd realised that myself the umpteen or so times I've played this game

Or you can kill them off with raiding armies. Spam them cavalary!

I personally find "battlefield assassination" to be easier for dealing with faction leaders and heirs. Send a lot of cavalry and missles and make the enemy generals your primary objectives.

Assasination of family members is a valid tactic to use on weakened factions
I found that after having fought a major battle with the HRE and killing 4 of their generals in 1 battle, they only had the faction leader left in far away Bologna, fortunatly I had a top assasin within range and he took care of the HRE faction leader and Bologna went over to rebels and the HRE was destroyed

Personally I am not bothered in the slightest about getting a bad reputation.
I just carry on assasinating when needed and normally end up with the pope from my faction and some enemies out of the way without the trouble of sieging them

Having a good rep is totally over-rated

Your Faction Leader will also get undesirable traits most of the time if you build those sorts of buildings.

Try targetting enemy generals on the field with crossbows. That tears right through their fancy armour.
