Patriotism... is not short, frenzied outbursts of emotion, but the tranquil and steady dedication of a lifetime.

(...) and that unfortunate People were afterwards forced to undergo the utmost Miseries of a Siege, in their Capital City of Barcelona; during which, great Multitudes of them perished by Famine and the Sword, many of them have since been executed; and great Numbers of the Nobility of Catalonia, who, for their Constancy and Bravery in Defence of their Liberties, and for their Services in Conjunction with Her Majesty and Her Allies, had, in all Honour, Justice, and Conscience, the highest Claim to Her Majesty's Protection, are now dispersed in Dungeons throughout the Spanish Dominions.

Whilst I supposrt popular independence/autonomy movements, even those which use violence when other means have failed, support for groups which target civilians seems to me pretty naive and morally dubious. Violence against solidiers and police 'occupying' your land when your movement has strong popular support is very different from killing civilians elsewhere.
Moar liek teh CIA, AMIRITE?!?

What? Ireland is already independent, the Basques & Quebec probably wouldn't be able to stand on their own legs economically (plus Quebec has already voted to stay part of Canada) and there are already negotiations for the creation of a Palestinian state.Originally Posted by igotballsofsteel

I seriously doubt an independent Quebec could do well in the middle of this financial crisis. Plus, once more I must state that the people of Quebec have stated 'no, we don't want to leave'. Surely there must be a good reason behind their decision?Originally Posted by igotballsofsteel
