Here it is: http://files.filefront.com/Stuff+For.../fileinfo.html
(Also see post #60 for a file you need to put in your 'data' folder after installing.)
(See post #195 for additional fixes)
I goofed up, however. When I compressed the installer, I compressed the directory it was in instead of the stuff that was IN it. Consequently, you will have to install this differently from all others.
To install this,
1. make a directory and 'install' the files first into that directory.
2. In the directory you made you will find a new directory called: Rome_Beta8_New_Full_Install.
3. In THAT directory you will find two directories: 'BI' and 'DATA'.
4. Copy those two directories into the RTW install where you want to install this. You should be prompted about overwriting files...if so, you are in th right place and just say 'yes to all'. If you are NOT in the right place you will not be prompted, and it won't work.
I'm going to upload the new instaler for RS2_Beta_8 tonite...probably start it as I go to bed, since it will take 4-5 hours anyway.
To answer some qustions that were asked (or will be):
1. Will this be Revision 13? No. My directory for these revisions is getting really cluttered. So I'm naming this Beta_8 and all previous stuff will be null and void. Besides, from this point on there shouldn't be so many 'massive' changes as there were before.
2. Will it be game save compatible. No. I don't care.
3. This new installer should be installed into a new directory by at least a few people. It CAN be installed over an old Beta7, but to ensure that something didn't get overlooked when I cleaned out the old installer, a new directory would be good because it will reveal any missing stuff if it's absent.
4. There will be included sets of files for strat borders on or off.
5. There will be two sets of COMPLETE files for the vegetation in both the default settings and the high-res settings. These sets have to be complete...meaning all the .vege files, sprites and canopy\edging files have to be a 'matched set'. Apparently the game generates them differently for the two different settings. I tried to get away with only one set of sprites and canopy\edging files, but the high res .vege files don't like them. (they disappear randomly)
6. What is the High-Res vegetation setting?
The RTW sprites are generated automatically by the game, and they are pathetic for the most part. They often don't match the color of the trees correctly, and with certain types of trees they are virtually horrible representations that look like 'green globs'. I have been trying to find a way to minimize their use for a long time, and these high res settings not only do that...they eliminate them almost completely.
RTW was written for machines that are far inferior to what is pretty common today, so in order to further enhance the look of RTW and make it even more M2TW quality (and or better) the distance at which the 'real' model and texture is used is increased (in HIGH settings) tenfold.....which is basically as far as the terrain goes. So a tree in the distance is going to actually be the same tree you're looking at up close, with distance being what makes it lose detail rather than a crummy sprite file. Some trees, literally MILES away (kilometers for you Europeans) look distinctly 'as they should' if you were looking at a real landscape.
The difference is quite remarkable. I have included a txt file that gives a little warning blurb about using it....a low end machine and\or video card will be EATEN alive by these settings, so use them ONLY if you have a machine that can handle it. I don't want to hear people saying "Oh that's soooo laggy!!" I warned you.
But TBH, my old Pentium4 with a 7600 Nvidia and 512MB video handles it quite nicely on LARGE settings. HUGE, I'm sure, would be another story. Anyway, both the High Res and the original 'default' files are in "_Important_stuff", so if you try the high res and don't like it, you can switch back as you please.
7. That last batch of unit cards that Leif sent me took care of a LOT of missing mercs and AOR units, so we are missing only a few as it stands. I do have issue with one card I've seen, however. Why does Carthage have a pink horse?
The smaller card is even 'pinker' than this one.
8. Many building textures being worked on and changed, including those that make this building:
The new look of the Greek Parthenon....which actually is the Temple of Artemis as well (second picture). So if Pacco replaces the Greek Parthenon, then at least the Temple of Artemis gets a bit of a facelift. One reason I picked on this one was because the Temple of Artemis was one of very few Greek Temples that had carved reliefs at the base of some 30 pillars in the front (out of 64).
The original, ala 'rising sun' pillars:
