Controversial sign must come down


PINELLAS PARK - Randy Heine says he has surveillance video that shows a man and woman climbing over a fense. The couple heads right for a sign that reads "One Nation Under Obama." They paint over Obama and replace it with God.
Heine owns the sign and isn't too happy about what he caught on tape.
"To me it's all about racism," said Heine.
Heine, who owns Rockin' Cards and Gifts in Pinellas Park, put up his Obama sign a day before the inauguration. He says it was his way of showing his support for the new president.
"I thought one nation under Obama would create unity. Although there are only a few people who would rather see our president fail," said Heine.
Since his sign went up it has been defaced, over and over. However, after every incident Heine has fixed the sign and proudly displayed it again.
Some people don't agree with Heine on the message behind the words.
"It is very un-American because that's our pledge of allegiance. I hope somebody messes with it again. And trust me, as Americans, we will," Kathy Konopinski told FOX 13.
Heine has a new battle to fight if he wants to keep the sign on display. Pinellas County code enforcement says the fence he put up around the sign is one foot too high. He's also been slapped with another violation. County code allows only one freestanding sign per business. Because of that, officials say the sign must come down.
Randy plans to fight that decision. "The only way I would consider taking down the sign is if President Obama asked me to. Otherwise, it will stay."

1. Anyone would be stupid enough to think One Nation under Obama" was anything but really tacky.
2. Vandalizing of property.
3. That there is a regulation on fence heights
4. That there is a regulation on the number of signs.
5. That loser screams racism because some people vandalized his brain dead sign.

Why would people take time out of their busy lives to vandalize such a ludicrous sign? I would just laugh and point as I drove by, Because I'm nothing if not economical. Either way vandalism is wrong, and there should be a smacking administered to those doing it.

And If the criteria for being racist is disagreeing with the president if he has different skin than you, then I request that all those who are not white and made fun of Bush to declare themselves as the racists they are.

See what I did there? I used reverse logic to make a point. So please stop calling Obama critics racist, unless they make a blatantly racist statement.

Now seriously, I don't give a darn who the president is, I'll criticize them as I see fit. I criticized Bush for his mistakes, and I will criticize Obama for his. Lets stop it with ridiculous double standards.

Whats so great and democratic about his election win anyway considering that 99.9% of black Americans voted for a black American.

How many people in America voted for this man not based on thier own intelligence and knowledge of what he and his party offered but purely because they followed a wave of popular support.

I'm not saying Obama is a bad president he may turn out to be a great president for the US, but the manner of his victory I hope is a one off as it is not good for democracy at all when people get excited about a canditates colour and not on his policiys and the rhangers on he will be bringing into power.

I'm glad we have Parlimentry Democracy in Britain where the party selects a leader as it avoids this sort of thing.

No way would I ever bother with putting a sign near my home.
