Icon5 The full history of Roman empire?

Hello! I am a big fan of the Roman empire. I am from Bulgaria and I was wondering is there a big book or some books that I could find that are made especially for the roman empire? By that I mean a book with the full history of battles/military and political campaigns and EVERYTHING. I've read History of Second world war and I liked it a lot. I am a big fan of the game and I am curious. Is there a forum where we talk not about the video games but the history in reality? Wikipedia don't have enough info on the subject. And could you give me the exact names of the books if you know any? Even if they are like 1000-2000 pages I would still want to get them. I preffer reading about the fights/battles/wars, not so much political info but WAR! )))) =)
Thanks for your time! If you have ebooks they still can help. I would preffer reading a real book in the bed rather spending time on the computer however.

Check the history section Vestigia Vetustatis.
There are several threads there with good books on all subjects, you can make a thread and ask, etc.

Too bland. It's not informative enough, and the real nuggets of info can only be gained by good books.

the glory that is Rome cannot be found in full in any one place.
Of these facts there cannot be any shadow of doubt: for instance, that civil society was renovated in every part by Christian institutions; that in the strength of that renewal the human race was lifted up to better things-nay, that it was brought back from death to life, and to so excellent a life that nothing more perfect had been known before, or will come to be known in the ages that have yet to be. - Pope Leo XIII

Like History then? Great, and I like the idea, but I don't think there is one! You could always try making one! Imagine it, a COMPLETE history of Rome, with every emperor, every battle, every general...

A full History of Rome hasn't been written, and would be impossible to take up in the first place. Gibbon had to write three enormous volumes to describe just the last 3 centuries of it. Livy's ten books on the 2nd punic war alone occupy a large volume, and that war lasted only a decade.

Another nice read is Livius (or Livy), he wrote a book covering the full history of Rome called the Histories. It's Roman history written by a real Roman.

Here's a link but there might be better ones, around book 5 it gets to battles and stuff:

Roman history by a real Roman isn't exactly a neutral read is it?

Depends, a lot of knowledge from Roman history is through Livy. I know of one thing that runs through the entire book: Livy is anti-plebeian and writes negatively of people that supported the plebs against the aristocracy, for instance Caesar (I think).

Heh, good to see your enthusiasm for the subject, Strategist.

You could check out this work, it's a good overview of the Roman army and the wars it fought.
