Default How Do You Know If You're Brainwashed?

Often in political debates, your opponent will accuse you of being 'brainwashed' based on your political views.
well how do you know if you're really brainwashed?
what if you really are brainwashed?
    how would you know?
or are they the ones who're brainwashed?

Every one is brainwashed. Or you would be a caveman.
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Nobody is brainwashed. Brainwashed people lose their independence and Humans are fiercely independent creatures.

False generalization at large here. For example the idea(l) of Capitalism is much more widespread and accepted in the United States than in Europe.

A brainwashed person never questions the information he/she is feed with. It's about being able to differ between Objectivity and Subjectivity. A brainwashed person is, imo, purely subjective.

If you have any hint of respect, admiration or pride with China then you're obviously brainwashed beyond redemption.

Oh and Americans are immune to brainwashing. Yep. Definetly. It comes with their world class health care, which by the way... CHINA DOESN'T HAVE. Tells you that China doesn't care about it's people. Yep most definetly 100% true without a shadow of a doubt.

I don't think people are brainwashed. I think they just buy into propaganda to a greater degree or another.

But saying someone is brainwashed is a pretty dumb argument in a debate. Giving that kind of a title seems to imply you have run out of facts and rhetoric with which to counter them.

    Take it easy,

Being Brainwashed is thinking you know something when you really have not expierence on the subject. I think we are all guilty of that.

I suspect all of us have some level of brainwash. But it's those who don't concede after being consistently proven wrong that annoy me.

    this.

Everyone is a little brainwashed imho, the problem start if the level of brainwashing is too high.

The way to not be too brainwashed is simple really, defend your arguments but always bear in mind that there is a possibility that indeed you're wrong, and if another person make a good argument, with realiable sources, examine his argument objectively and admit honestly, with him and with youself, that you were wrong if you see that what he said was true.

Well I won't agree with the Iraq part, but he definantly brainwashed the less educated citizens into thinking that this gave him the right of some self-righteous crusade in Iraq.

Come on I a saw a book the other day whose title was "Bush the Hero of 911." You have one crashing blow to the world, and soon everyone runs around like a lost puppy looking for the person in charge. Who unfortunately was Bush, who twisted the event into it's own meaning, therefore 'brainwashing' the American people.

So I guess you can consider Brain Washing, a political figure making someone agree to his views based on another view that he holds that the party holds dearly.

It's like my Grandma says, Bush has good morales. Yeah, but does that make him a good president? It's like a president saying, I dislike abortion! Then saying, (Oh yeah I also want to raise taxes for the poor and lower them for the rich.) See... People would be so obsessed with the apparant "moral" choice that they can no longer make an informed desicion. The best example of this is the Family Guy where Lois runs for public office.

George Bush has claimed he was on a mission from God when he launched the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, according to a senior Palestinian politician in an interview to be broadcast by the BBC later this month.Mr Bush revealed the extent of his religious fervour when he met a Palestinian delegation during the Israeli-Palestinian summit at the Egpytian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, four months after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

I'd say they succumbed to propaganda and ignorance, but aside from semantics I agree. I think you earned some rep.
