Icon5 How to restore campaign and saves?

    Hi folks!

First of all I'd like to thank all those who worked and continue working hard on this amazing mod! You're awesome guys

Now, I hope I have a silly problem. I was playing Kievan Rus campaign SS 6.0 patched to 6.1 with two options enabled - Real Recruiting and Grim. I had to reinstall my WinXP, did fresh Kingdoms install, SS 6.0, SS 6.1, copied save games into
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II\mods\Stainless Steel 6.0\saves
    .

When I start the game - I can't see my save games. So, I go ahead and start new campaign with the same difficulty and settings, save it as kiev-1. Exit game, copy saves again. Now I can see game saves and I can load them...

    But.
    1. My generals have weird traits like duke of city that belongs to different faction and I haven't captured it yet.
    2. All buildings that recruit Archer and Peasant militia are simply gone
    3. Two of my regions have HRE's colors on the map
    4. One of my regions has Hungarian color on the map

I searched C:\Documents and settings for any SEGA or SS files and could not find any. I restarted my campaign, but how can I avoid this in the future?

    Thanks a lot

That is really weird. I know I've done that before and had no problems. The only thing I can think of (and it probably wouldn't make any difference) but maybe start a new campaign, exit the game and THEN copy in your save games.

Do you have to start campaign on fresh install again in order to be able to load backed up save files?

One thing that might cause problems with loading saved games is making sure you have the identical patch with any minor modifications you've made yourself to cure problems.

(there is always the possibility that a saved game file has become corrupted in some way?)

I thought so too... I will soon re-install OS on SSD RAID-0 and this time I will make sure I had the same options enabled when applying SS 6.1 (Real Recruiting, Byg's Grim Reality + Sound Fix).

Will let you know how it goes. Color map is not a problem, but "fake" Generals' traits and sudden change in which type of army I could recruit is.

    Cheers

Traits are particularly non-save game compatible.
revised versions of the traits file have been around for some time - maybe you installed one of those?
I'd recommend starting afresh (and installing the 6.2 patch which includes a lot of bug fixes - could save some grief later down the line.)

Nope, haven't messed around with traits outside of installing 6.1 - it's a shame they get screwed up...

6.2 is RC4 right now? I will try it out.
