In old RTW I know the way how to change this annoying thing – inability to see where the settlements on the map are. It was in preferences, fog_of_war_disabled. But here I have hard times finding that. Any help? Thanks in advance

type in console:
toggle_fow
![]()
Thanks Aranu, it is helpful. But now I can see all armies and characters...which I do not want. Can it be fixed like in RTW, so I can see only settlements and their owners but no armies, characters etc. It is like your characters have discovered that area but have moved from there...if you know what I mean
Do the console command that Aranu said, but do it twice. That'll turn fog of war back on but you'll still be able to see all settlements.
Hell no, it is not cheating, of course kings in those days knew where the major cities were located…come on…It can be pain in the ass while playing sometimes
Caesar Clivus, thanks alot
King's know the locations of major settlements? Sure. Every single town, castle, and village in all of Europe and the middle-east? Not so much.
Besides, that's why spies are in the game.
I disagree, Kings back then would obviously know about all troop movments/city locations back then. They always had spys filling them information so they never got caught off guard if a nation planned to go to war with them.
I never FoW on, I always have it on and it really don't give me an advantage at all.
"...If a fragment of the future can be seen between the joined hands, Then in the light, everything ..words and thoughts... sway back and forth. I'll be sure to pass them to you in the distance, without leaving anything behind..."
i get what hes saying, something like the campaign objectives, you know, where its displayed on the mini-map, where it looks like youve already explored an area, like when playing as the romans, you can see caffa on the minimap, despite the fact you havent been there yet, i mean, its not like no one knows where constantinople/paris/rome/jerusalem/(add any major city here) is
one other option is to teleport your spy to ever major city the first turn, might take a while, but youll end up with the same effects
You dont have to spam spies. You just need a couple to scout out where you're going to attack next. That way you still know where enemy settlements are beforehand.

A real King would not have gotten precise detailed knowledge of an enemy's forces like you do in this game. Besides, you dont need to know all enemy movements, just the ones you are attacking or about to attack. Which can be accomplished with just a few spies and watchtowers.
I like it how it is. Every now and then I toggle fow just to see who owns what. I toggle it back off again and keep playing. I am with Aranu, if your spies, watchtowers and scattered merchants diplomats, etc, don't spot an incoming army, all the more fun! I love it when four stacks of Jihadi Kwarezmians turn up out of nowhere, having slipped through unguarded mountain passes.
Hi,
an other way which I know from SuS mod is to give the player in the early game (within first 15 years) the option to pay for it.
A pop up will ask the player after cartography is developed ....do you want to pay 5.000f for a discovery of all capitol cities ? If so you have to click on yes/no button. After you paid for it you will see from next turn on with mini map all capitol cities.
