Open in notepad medieval2.preferences.cfg, scroll down and you will find the lines concerning resolution and just to be safe make campaign and battle the same 1024x768. It the base for the game and any monitor nowadays supports it. Make the file readonly so the game can't rewrite it until you get it to work. Then you can match the game's supported list against your monitor's supported list and change accordingly.

It would work if you reinstalled but then you have to click "Yes" when it askes you "Delete saved games?"
THis problem happened to me too. I cant reinstall my game so i downloaded a program that makes you be able to go to options without starting the game

It would be alot easier if you just reinstalled the game. Before you reinstall go to "C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Data and find the "Saves" folder.
Copy-Paste all the saved games you want and paste them somewhere safe e.g on your desktop.
Then uninstall the game and when it asks you "Delete Saved Games and Changes?" or something like that click "Yes".
Install the game and put your saved games back in the "Saves" folder. It should now work on a default resoultion of 1024x768. Hope that helps :-P
