Could this be the end of the Tamil Tigers? Will Sri Lanka finally know peace?

At least one conflict is coming to a close.
Those recent attacks by the tigers are just the last spasms of a dying body.

In contrast to the efforts of tiny Israel to make contributions to the world so as to better mankind, one has to ask what have those who have strived to eliminate Israel from the face of the earth done other than to create hate and bloodshed.

What, nobody's actually going to mention anything about human rights violations by the Sri Lankans?

Didn't say I was volunteering. I was simply wondering whether you and the rest of the Israel-flouts-human-rights posse would jump on this at all.

There is me thinking that you were concerned that fellow human beings were suffering rather than playing holier land than thou.

Well the thread is quite young and I have been busy elsewhere. As for me, you will have seen that I have left my marker, will expand on it tomorrow. You will have noticed that the alleged crimesheet in my source is similar to the IDF's in Gaza, "Sri Lankan forces are shelling hospitals and so-called safe zones and slaughtering the civilians there" so my view of the operation is a critical one, using my standard arguments, I could almost copy and paste. Mind you the Sri Lankan government actively fighting a war, not conducting a raid in order to secure votes in an election.

Considering they are armed and trained and have been trained by India and the Tamil Nadu government, I'm glad to see these Indian terrorists being eliminated.

You only forgot the simple fact that the LTTE are banned by the state govt of Tamil Nadu, and by the national Indian Govt for terrorism.

Yes initially, but in the past few years support for the LTTE have been banned as well, the govt has been eager to wash their hands of the LTTE, since Britain and the US put them on the terrorism list, and India is trying to cosy up to the US.
Britian putting them on the terror list is pretty much a crushing blow to the LTTE and the recent victories of the SriLankans can be attributed to that since most of their support comes from Tamil expats living in the west, and with most western nations banning them, most of their income is pretty much gone. I believe at one time they were considered the best trained and most armed rebel group in the world.

That doesn't change the fact that the Indian army trained and armed LTTE for more than 15 years. O well....I'm just glad to see an end to this entire thing.

would you back up that ridiculous claim of yours with proof?
in case you are not aware; there are two groups of tamils in the island. those who are called Ceylone(now called lankan) tamils and those who are called Indian tamils. The Indian Tamils were brought by the brits a couple of hundred years ago to work in the tea/rubber plantations on the south-central highlands whereas the Ceylonese tamils have been living in this island as far as the ealiest recorded history. there is ample historical and archeological evidence to back this up. and the indian tamils are not asking for a seperate country/state but its the ceylonese Tamils who are asking for one; after having suffered decades of discrimination. they are as native as the sinhalese...in fact even more so; given the fact that the sinhalese have 70% tamil genes

so pls refrain from making statements about wich you have any clue about. it would save you needless embarrassment. if interested; i would suggest that you do read some books in this matter and enlighten yourself

and when i mean read up; i mean reputable sources/books and not some website like wiki(lol even the wiki article supports what i said btw)

and i would know; cos im a Ceylonese Tamil myself

indeed; one wonders why. For anyone interested; i would suggest articles by the Human rights watch, Amnesty international, Unicef and doctors without borders.

its obviously cos they have everything to hide. more than a dozen journalists have been made "disappear" in Srilanka after they voiced opposition to the government. the most recent one being Lasantha Wikramathunge; who's letter from beyond the grave explicitly accused the Srilankan government of assassinating him.

the famous letter, titiled "And they came for me" is moving and a window into the tragedy that is srilanka.

Ya right; you know why Tamil Tiger even existed/exists?? How about Sri Lanka government stop discriminate Tamil population??

If Sri Lanka does not stop its racist policy of course the Tamil Tiger would appear again and again.

my view exactly. Its the racist policies of the Srilankan Government that created this mess in the first place. its a religious/ethnic theocracy similar to that of iran.

my tech guy is Sri Lankan, i was talking to him about the recent developments, and he was saying that while he's optimistic about an end to the violence, there wont be peace for a while.
