Will mods work with Rome TW Gold from Steam?

Hello. I saw that if I pre-ordered Empire: Total War from Steam I would get the Rome: Total War Gold for immediate download in addition. I already do have RTW and the expansion pack BI, but I see advantage in having it on Steam (And I never purchased the alexander pack so that would also be positive).

But I wonder; are there any extra difficulties when installing mods etc. when you download the game from Steam or is it still the same files? Also; I've heard some rumours that you don't get a cd-key when you download it through Steam, is that true?

The cd-key is necessary to play multiplayer, so that's why I ask.

Hmm, this has come up before I think. I'm not sure, but if possible you should take precautions. Like copying the original files and replacing them if it screws up your game.
If you wish to play mods, stick to mods that specifically say that they are in a mod-folder, this means that they are in a separate map and will use but not change your original game files.
As for the cd-key, you can do two things. Contact Steam and request one, and contact Sega and request one. In both cases, just send the email you received with the proof of purchase along with your email.

If you have the hard copy of the game, just use the CD key that came with that one. It will still work.

Installing mods with steam is a little difficult. Just make sure to ask the mod team if their mod is compatible (I know XGM's installer has been set up to be steam friendly). You could just create a thread in their sub-forum asking if it will work well.
