A question about AI and assassins

I've just come back to war to prepare for empire so bear with me if this is a silly question.

I remember playing either medieval 2 or 1 and I was swarmed by assassins constantly to the point I would assign a spy or 2 to army groups just to act as counters. My question is, does anyone know if this was 1 or 2 where the AI took advantage of assassins because with the current patched up version the AI seems incompetent in it's use of assassins and I'm curious.

Mind you, the AI effectively using assassins was an utter pain in the ass but how it seems to have no idea how to use them now is annoying as well.

It was probably med 1..med 2 is not known for good ai..

Completely agree with Slurricane, the AI is crap in Med 2, so I'm presuming it's the first one.

if you have m2tw in a sentence you're not allowed to use smart ai in that same sentence
so yeah it's mtw
