    Default Trees & Weather

I have many miscellaneous questions about terrain, weather, and moral. I would like to know more about in order to increase my effectiveness in battle. If any one knows please post!

    ------
    On trees:

I read in the instruction manual that trees "provide cover from missile fire", however, how far does a unit (group of 60+ soldiers) need to be inside the foliage cover of trees for it to work?

You know how when units hide when remain immobile for a few seconds and a tree icon appears in the unit card indicating they are hiding...? Would the unit have to be in a similar position under trees to receive their cove?
If you put your unit in a line formation, and half of the line is inside the woods and the other half on the field, does the engine recognize each unit individually?

How does the protection from trees work? Same amount of missiles fall but less chance of killing? Or does less missiles fall upon your soldier, with same chance of killing?

Also, if your own units shoot from inside the cover of trees, is their missile effectiveness affected because of this?

    ___________

    On Weather:

Most of us know that rain makes your archer/xbows useless, but I have some other doubts.

Sometimes there is light rain, and heavy rain, heavier it gets the less your missiles work, right?

Also, sometimes there are desert storms, light fog and light fog, snowfall, snowstorm, and heavy snowstorm. Do any of these weather occurrences also affect the missile's effectiveness, or it affects the units in the field in some other way?

Are siege engines affected by weather discrepancies as well?

Some units have trait such as "Combat Bonus in Wood/Snow". Does that mean that the field of battle has to have trees/snow on it, or that the unit in the field has to be directly standing over a patch of woods or snow? What is the combat bonus specifically, +1 attack/defense?

    ----------

    On stamina/morale:

Units go through morale stages from Impetuous to Wavering. Is this merely an indicator of the troops morale or does it affects a unit's efficiency in battle? For example, will a spear militia unit have better chances of surviving while in combat being "Eager" than, the same unit fighting through the battle in "Wavering" mode, would the spear militia unit receive more deaths if "Wavering" throughout the battle?

Similar questions goes for Stamina. Besides decrease in speed and morale, does low amounts of stamina reduce a unit's effectiveness in battle?

Theses questions have always bugged me and have not found an answer for them, so if you know please post!

Well, the trees are a solid objects, so I guess the arrows can't get through them! In dense forests archers would be very unefficient when firing from long range!

and half of the line is inside the woods and the other half on the field, does the engine recognize each unit individually?
I'd say that in that matter, engine recognizes the unit as a whole, not an individual soldier!

I think that rain makes reloading slower for missile units..not sure if it effects accuracy! Also, I don't think that it matters if it's light or heavy rain, as long as it's raining.

Also, sometimes there are desert storms, light fog and light fog, snowfall, snowstorm, and heavy snowstorm. Do any of these weather occurrences also affect the missile's effectiveness, or it affects the units in the field in some other way?
I'm also wondering how does fog(amount of fog) affect ranged units, especially after I got Horsearchers weather mod..but from what I seen, fog doesn't have any effect(except the lower visibility for the human player)..

does low amounts of stamina reduce a unit's effectiveness in battle?
Yes..exhausted unit moves and and fights very slowly!

It effects there fortitude. For instance Noway , Denmark and Scotland etc tire slower in cold climate battles compares to the likes of france , spain etc

The same applies for Muslim factions and Desert terrains there units do not lose fortitude in the desert heat. But all of the catholic faction units do. Iberia or italian state factions may not though im not sure.

I for one know it would defonately effect me. Being from england and used to the cold and wet climate. If i went from wearing heavy metal armor in a nice cold climate to walking around in a desert with it on i wouldnt last 2 minutes.

I did a thorough test with fog and archery units.

In light and heavy fog archer units should have decreased range, due to low visibility and dampness of the air(affects the bowstring)..but that is not the case!

Archery units fire at same rate and range in clear weather, as well as in heavy fog!

Conclusion: Fog only affects the human player, because of lower visibility.

Seriously, when playing heavy fog, I consider it a lost battle if army strenght ratios are 1:1, it's almost like playing with your screen turned off. Only if you zoom in all the way do you get a bare view of the battlefield, but all your strategies still fail.

You can press on the button that lights up where everyone is. Its the shield close to your formations button.

I find it better with fog, but only if i'm playing against my buddy. Light cavalry ftw.

    Hi,

    there is sth I wonder.

There is not a game function that you burn up the things like trees.

The weather in winter is very dry and it is very easy to burn up a forrest with fire arrows.

Using the fire to decimate the enemy is quite effective. But it seems, I have not seen such things in Medieval 2 or Medieval Europe.
