It's a very real possibility; the question is not so much will it happen, but what will the world response be? With Obama in power, and his Israel envoy in place, it'll be interesting to see how much influence he actually wields in the Middle East...

With Netanyahu running things Id say not much, he is exactly the type of person who will completely ignore any US pressure. In the end maybe that will be a good thing as "Bibi" can hang himself from his own noose and show that his aggressive views wont work and are counterproductive. Israel needs someone in PM slot who has a third way.

The fact is, the Israeli PM can't ignore US pressure because the US is a large part of what keeps the Israeli army in munitions and supplies, and also a large part of what protects it internationally.

Ignoring US pressure would be bad for the whole peace process, even if it resulted in Netanyahu being replaced.

Obama has said he will support Israel. I think if the rocket fire continues, then Obama will allow Netanyahu to retaliate. I can see no good outcome from this situation. Either Lebanon will be devastated,again, or Israelis will die from rocket attacks. It is a very terrible situation.

yes I agree, Netnyahu should have the greenlight from Daddy (US) before attacking Lebanon,and Israel doesn't have a strong pretext to launch a war against lebanon (Hezbullah) unless hezbullah attacks northern Israel

Not necessarily, groups could fire rockets into Israel from Lebanon. It could turn into another Gaza situation where Israel invades to stop the rockets.
