civil war

hey fellas. Its my first time playing Rome and i have a few questions about initiating the civil war..... I am playing as the Julii and have taken Spain, Gaul and Britain by which it was about 200 BC. Then I started to gear up for the civil war which i would try and start so I started building public buildings like arenas, coliseums etc. I decided I would start defying seante missions as well... this didnt work out well cos i havent got a senate mission for 30 years. I keep getting a 'gained popularity with the masses' message but still cant attack Rome. Now Ive got daily races in just about all my cities and am losing money fast as well. Is this normal??

Check your standing with the plebs and the senate you should have atleast 8 Bars or crowns forgot with their called something of loyal's, then you will be able to start a civil war or just get an assasin and if he fails and gets killed civil war erupts

Thanks for ur reply sunday. But ive kept getting messages saying "increased popularity with masses" but it stays on seven crowns:hmmm:any other ideas?

Try an assassination on one of the other romans.

Try to attack some of the other romans - it will either say that you need more popularity or it might let you attack if there has been a glitch. Later the senate will probably give you a mission and instead of a reward it will say that 'if you fail, your secret will be exposed'.

already tried attacking the other romans but doesnt work. i havent had a sentae mission in over 40 years either so i cand defy them. i tried assassinating them (senate) and my assassin got caught but they didnt seem to care

and the wierd thing is my standing with the senate is going up despirte doing jack all for them while all my cities now have coliseums and awesome temples or pantheons. whenever i get the message 'standing with plebs up' or 'standing with senate up' the crowns dont go up anymore

could this be a glitch? cheers

The only other thing you can do is keep conquering and being massively overpowered on the other Romans. Hope that that will provoke them.

i got a suggeestion.

put one of your full stacks in Allied territory. the Senate will normally give you a mission to remove it from that place, and if you dont there will be a penalty.

It might say you've gained some popularity, but you don't have enough overall... So just keep conquering. Should also solve your money woes.

Or you could fail an assassination attempt on one of your Roman Allies. That should get you outlawed soon enough.

sam_0_12345 when you get popularity with the masses it don't give you one star or whatever symbol it is. It's like 3 messeges for one symbol. Also if you send like 10 spyes every turn letting them out and in again the senate will wage war on you for sure. Best way is to get assasins and kill the governators!

Also it is best to kill as many as enemy generals you can to reduce the combat skill. It gets very hard beating scipii and brutii on multiple fronts(if you are julii). Also there was very annoying bug once! My army was waiting to make an ambush and brutii units came near it and IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP THE ATTACK so I needed to fight a neutral faction whatever I want or not which is

! Why my units won't simply stay in ambush like they don't care if the enemy is 10 times stronger? I remember only two options "resolve automatically" and "fight on battle map". I mean WTF?! Why I wouldn't want to skip a battle? After all this triggers the civil war! Or as I remember if I was not supported then by the people there was another bug where I coudn't attack the other factions but they were attacking me LMAO ROFL!

Maybe it was just my specific generals, but the senate LOVED me my entire game as the Julii.

It was maxed out until I killed them. I thought they'd welcome the authoritarianism!
