Default Anyone else get bored Late-game?

I've had this problem with all the medieval games, I love the mod, mostly for the way that it makes it worth it to get the more powerful units, as my preferred method of playing is to try and out-tech my enemies. However, the problem I mentioned is that late game (turn 100 or so) after I've wiped out a faction or two (cause I get tired of getting attacked at some weak settlement so I strike back, you know the drill) it's not much of a challenge anymore, cause no one has an empire to match me, even with only a couple of factions down. An example is I've been playing as scotland, and I control about 25 provinces (Isles, most of france, and some of denmark, cause I got tired of norway sending a stack to attack york every 3 turns or so) and just looking after removing the FOW shows that there's no one who can hope to match me, and I'm just now getting my best units! (a related annoyance is it seems no matter how hard I work to tech up the AI has the next upgrade as fast or faster, no matter what's happening to them... ruins my fun of having better troops... grr)

Playing on late campaign is an option, (I usually play early) but there the other difficulty arises that there's no sense of accomplishment for getting the late troops when you have them to begin. Does anyone have any sort of suggestion for this dilema, or is this a problem everyone has? Thanks.

I routinely play on H/H, how much of a difference does it make? Thinking of starting an english campaign, if that helps.

Download Gracul's 6.2 patch... and migrate to the east for a nice face off against mongols.

Is it that bad? Are the mongols the only challenge, or is it everyone?

Well, I had a peak at the mongols in my campaigns.

Imagine a congo line of 7 full stacks heading west.

Right now, me being in Germany and them being in Baghdad kind of makes me feel "safe". But give them another 70 turns, and they'll be going medieval on me.

They route easier on VH than hard? that seems odd.

What's your solution when a faction keeps attacking you in your weak points, or a weak settlement? I generally attack them, thats why I end up expanding quickly, do you just take it?

Buy them. You can usually secure any peace with 15k

Play on VH/H. On Battle VH the enemry routes far too easily. As for too fast an expansion all I can say is slow down, take it easy. Try and play in manner that seems somewhat realistic. It's easy to blitz and cover the map in 21 turns but where's the fun in that?

Play slowly, build up a strong economy and military, and so will your enemies. I find the game to far more rewarding this way. Furthermore try factions that get a lot more late game action. For instance the Kwarz Shar? They bear the brunt of the Mongol invasion. Once you've recovered from that proceed to march into Europe. By that time there will be plenty of citadels garrisoned with well armoured knights.

The game will be much funner this way, I assure you!

I'm getting bored trying to figure out why I win a heroic victory I don't get the sword icon on the map.

Try a game on very hard/very hard. That should make the game more interesting especially with no cheats. If you want to make it more interesting play as the hre or Kingdom of jerusalem.

The higher batltle setting you play on the higher effect Battle Dread and Chivalry have on the field. So a general with 2 Dread has the effect tripled. Recently at the beginning of a Turkish campaign I had 7 units of spear milita and two units of archers rout from my 1 General (with 4 Dread), 1 spear militia and two horse archers. Ridiculous, they would have slaughtered me. VH/H is the hardest setting available.

If they are attacking your weakpoints, spread your forces. You should be able to disperse them equally among your frontiers right? And if they're attacking you, let them. Build up your generals stats or get them excommunicated. Play a faction you've never played and never use toggle_fow (ruins any surprises) and you should be able to keep a game that engages you until the end.

Thanks all. I'll try that. I don't use the arab factions much, may give them a try, used to heavy inf, rather than skirmishers, that should give me a bit of trouble

Try 6.2 IT IS SO MUCH DIFFICULT. Like medium on 6.2 its like super hard on 6.1, no kidding.

I am playing as the TO right now and even though I have 31 provinces, have a treasury of 200k with an average income of 30k-70k a turn... there is no room for slowing down...

I just toggle_fow'd in my current byzzie campaign to count how many full stacks the mongols had. Just full stacks, ignored half stacks.

    stopped counting at 65 D:

Yet on the bright side they can't seem to take the last Turkish city for the life of them. They've been sieging it for 10 turns now.

Dude, you have no idea of what you are getting into you're gonna regret lol you're gonna get so dumbstrucked that even though you seem to have control of the world there at least two other super powers.

Also, on my TO campaign, almost everyone is my enemy, mongols are a semi-super power, but the moors have taken all of iberia, they're share of africa, sicily and are on a mass conquest over france... which the french have no hope to resist, its like a western mongol-like invasion. Also the fatimids are stronger than me even I am powerful as it is, they have like all citadels in their inland.

Funny, for me, France conquested half of iberia, but then was sent back by who conquered southern France.

20 turns later, France was in Iberia again, then Genoa came and stole southern lands of France.

Also, I had to laugh when I saw that the templars conquered all of anatolia, that the fatimids got owned by Genoa and that Sicily owns Greece

Trust me, 6.2 gives you real aggressive factions.

I many times have the same problem of getting bored, but I have it around turn 75, when I have 20 regions or so. At that time, everyone who's capable of doing so attacks me. I bribe or defeat their armies and take their lands in 20-25 turns. Then I have about 50 regions - no one can stop me anymore.
