    Default Pergamum, oh my Pergamum!

I started two campaigns today, as the Kingdoms of Epirus and Macedon, but I'd quit them both within the first few turns to play yet another Pergamum campaign.

Pergamum has become my favorite faction in XGMD, but I can't really say why. It can't be the roster, because it isn't much different from the other Successor kingdoms. Is it the critical starting position? The fact that I'm a single city against the massive Seleucid Empire? Honestly, I can't really say.

What about all of you guys? What do you like and dislike about the Pergamum faction and campaign?

Well, I played it a short while ago, and what I like about it is the starting position. It is a very interesting faction to play with.

I always like Pergamum, even in the standard XGM,for 1 reason:Hellenic Vs Eastern Warfare.

What i did is keep the alliance and trade routes with Macedon, and wait with attacking the Seleucids, otherwise you will get full stacks coming your way,so wait until your sure there busy on their eastern front.
But if you need the money, attack the Independent Greek Cities at Halicarnassus,It would seem a bad idea to have 2 Cities with an enemy between, but just make 5-6 deutoroi, and they will hold off armies 2,3 times their size.
After that you wil have lots of options to expand your empire from,Invade Rhodes,or even challenge the Seleucids.

Pergamum when played right, can easily conquer the entire eastern world, just be cautious about the Macedons,They will have a knife in your back faster than you can say You son of a *****!

(Bad Relations with Macedonians since RTW began )

I don't have to worry about Macedon in this campaign...AL has wiped them off the map and taken all of mainland Greece except Sparta.

I attacked IGCS early on when they positioned a half stack right next to Pergamon, in addition to the fact that I wanted Halicarnassus, Byzantium, and Nicomedia (real money-makers).
Right now I'm wondering if the Ptolemies are going to stab me in the back. I hold Rhodes and they have an army standing right next to the city. It's got a formidable garrison and all (two Hypaspist, 4 Deutori, 4 heavy cav, 2 archer), but the waiting and wondering is killing me.

I neaver play Pergamum for one reason ... MASSIVE SELEUCID EMPIRE AND YOU HAVE ONE CITY! But why do i play with GCS when i only concentrate on greek mainland? I must be weird ... But i have more resources but that also included losing more money...

Well well, i am not playing XGMD until v0.96 arrives and for that ... I will play every faction that has undertaken a major change!!! (sorry Rome and Carthage, you has already been changed )

I am dissapointed by the rosters in XGMD overall. The mercenary barracks need an over-haul. But I do like the ease at which a hellenistic faction(and a person conquering Carthage) can get elephants.

The only campaigns I've messed with beyond the first few turns are carthage, which I've played far enough to gather a large force of mostly mercenaries and a few native units and invade italy. I plan to kill Rome and then use a later created force to take siciliy and the south of the boot.
Macedon I've played a lot more, which, ironically, I'm about to invade Pergammum in. Then epiris, then the romans, and just waiting for a thracian invasion. I plan to make my empire exactly the image of the eastern roman empire at its largest, and perhaps including thracian lands. Sounds fun to me.

I'm not a big fan of "Little guy versus Epic beast" or "Epic beast vs. a bunch of little ankle biters"(pergammum vs. seleucid and seleucid vs. the entire eastern half of hte map, respectively) I prefer to build up and conquer foes that are nearly equal to slightly stronger/weaker, then attacking the huge empires that arise with my own.

With you on the last point. It's all I can do to stick out my Seleucid campaigns, knowing that I could crush each and every enemy...

But not eight of them at once.

    Game of the Fates
Mod of the week on hold -- I've played nearly every RTW mod out there.
BOYCOTT THE USE OF SMILEYS! (Okay, just once)
Antiochos VII...last true scion of the Seleucid dynasty...rest in peace, son of Hellas.
I've returned--please forgive my long absence.

i like macedons, i like carthage, i like rome but i hate everything else. i think its because of the colours. i really dislike orange even tho its my favourite fruit.

i have tried playing pergamum and ive been pleased with the intensity of the campaign. i must say its one of the best campaigns around. right up there with carthage, AL and IGCS.

Change all the colours to the same one then! That should be fun to work out.
