    Default Ceasefires?? The Pope(Ugh!!!)

How many moves does a ceasefire last for? Scotland just paid me 2000 florins for a ceasefire and I accepted because I'm waiting for the hold on attacking them from the Pope anyway to expire. I would like to attack them soon as possible. The Pope is always interfering, he threatened to excommunicate me if I keep warring with France so I stop and then France lays seige to Toulouse and blockades one of my ports all the while I sit twiddling my thumbs because of the Pope This is an amazingly rich game can't believe I waited this long to buy it but in a way it's great cuase its brand new to me .

Cease fires last forever (neutral) if neither side break it. However if u mean the mission of the pope the mission usually lasts 7-9 turns. (check how many turns left till the mission ends by clicking on that unopened letter in your UI interface)

Assassinate all their priests. If their lands get ridden with paganism, heretics and orthodoxy, they will fall out of the Pope's favour and the Pope will stop giving a about you pwning them.

I'll have to try that Gobmech. thanks Pink Beard but I mean how many turns do I have to honor the ceasefire before I can attack since they piad me 2000 florins not to attack?

Another question. Does it make a difference if you leave your priests in the city or outside in the surrounding lands? Do they convert while in the city because that would keep them safe from assassians?

Haha you can still attack them but expect a huge drop in reputation (as your then known as the liar that takes their money and then breakes the threaty). Doing so will make future agreements immensively hard to make. It is better to entice the Scots into attacking you as then THEY broke the threaty...

Does breaking the agreement with the Scots just afffect my reputation with the Scots or other factions as well?

Both. U will get a *huge* (just a bit exaggerating) rep penalty with the scots (probably ending up with "terrible" relations) and your global reputation will drop too...

They convert at a veeery slow rate while in cities. It's better to have them in the field.

If your relationship with the Pope is high enough, he won't excommunicate you, just be a bit dissapointed! Just give him 1000 florins here and there you can fight whoever you want.

You shouldn't ruin your global reputation right from the start one. A few times I was so ed up about everyone and the pope that I chose to make my own policies, i.e. bring death and destruction everywhere. Bad idea though, for it reduces the game in later stages to a simple onslaught. You'd better take a bit in the sour apple (I wonder wether this proverb really exists in the english language ) and try to isolate your enemy diplomatically, by keeping calm at the outset of the game, make friends with everyone (try to use one or two diplomats only to make their influence-trait grow) and wait til your enemy dooms himself by attacking everyone's darling, meaning you.

Give diplomacy a try, it makes warfare look more distinguished.

My faction leader's cognomen is always something like tyrant, murderer, stuff. Comes from all the diplomat-, general- and priest-slaying which is conducted under my order. Sadly it takes really long and a lot of special care to train some useful assassins. Once you have one, you'll see it's time well invested.

I seem to recall another post that claimed a ceasefire must last for 4 additional turns or there is a greater loss to global reputation. If the Pope makes demands, they have a specified time period. I am thinking this is true for any deviation from the presumed 4 turn "standard" that I mentioned.

I find it easier to role play the situation and not accept a ceasefire with the intention of getting a settlement or cash and then continue on with the war. What the AI does is another situation. I was just playing a short campaign with Milana and Venice and Byxantium were hammering each other. Every other turn was a ceasefire and then war again. Both reputations ended completely in the garbage dump. Yuck!!!
