Whenever I get a city that has cannon towers, it is untakable. The turn after the enemy lays siege, I just attack and let my cannon towers destroy the attacking army.
I'm ashamed but its the stupid A.I's fault
so, do you explit stupid A.I?

There's something very useful I sometimes use against the Mongols. I give it the imaginative name of 'the ram trick'. When the Mongols are besieging your city and have no artillery, send one unit with weak morale, like spear millitia, out of your gates and into the path of the ram as soon as the battle starts. The unit will then fight the Mongols. When it is fighting, the ram will push straight through the unit, but as soon as the unit routes the ram carriers will abandon the ram and chase the routers. The routers will get stuck outside your (hopefully locked!!!) gates, either getting picked off or just left.
The strange thing now is that now the siege towers are at the walls, the ram men won't go back to their ram and will just go up the towers, to get slaughtered on the walls! They will just keep sending their infantry up the towers until they all die, even though they could just breach the gates with the ram and run to the plaza with their cavalry.
Very sneaky. But I guess the overpowered Mongols kinda deserve it though.
Hmmm, I've never noticed this... I remember playing as the Turks and being siege by the Mongols with 5 full stacks and it's not my cannon towers that killed them but my JA stakes
Never happens with me, the AI always sets up out of range..
I might get one or two hits before he pulls back and waits for me.
I've not seen this either. Could it be the version?
Used to do the Merchant in a fort, but then I realised trying to keep every fort on every slave was costly, especially then the mongols came!
***WORKS ONLY WITH VANILLA!***
Should u ever encounter 2 rebel stacks close to eachother a funny thing may happen:
example: there is 1 rebel unit (on the campaign map) and right next to that there is a full rebel stack.
attack the 1 rebel unit
defeat the 1 rebel unit. the full stack will come as reinforcements and do nobesides sitting on their asses.
wait till timer runs out
VOILA you just killed a full stack of rebels with only very minimal casualties.
ps: my best shot was 1600 rebels killed with about 10-20 losses![]()
E:TW's natives have developed a new "Ballistic Automatic Detection And Seeking System" to utterly annihilate any European that sets foot on their soil... That's BADASS for short!
Uhm things can get messy then... I did the same trick with a fort assault.
with unlimited time. I just opened the fort using spies, went inside, killed that lousy unit and they (the rebel reinforcements) couldn't enter the fort because the gates were closed for them... so the 3 min counter killed them all!![]()

Nope.
“Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.”
I remember repulsing seige after seige after seige by the Mongols on Constantinople as the Scots, just by attacking as soon as they laid seige and letting the cannons do their job. The battles were time limited and eventually their losses where so great they'd flee. Never really had to engage them in open battle much until I pushed north.
It is a vanilla exploit...I think it was changed in the patches.

How can anyone still be playing "vanilla"?
And what's with not wanting the Mongols to get into your gate? That is exactly where I want them - not on the walls. I have completely destroyed 3 full stacks of the poor bastards with my Scottish pikemen. The smell from their boiled in oil flesh would have made my men pass out but I issued respirators for all of them. Talk about an exploit; even I am ashamed.
Is vanilla the local name for retail version? I have the game patched up and it also works with the retrofit mod. If so I still think vanilla is the best. I liked the grand campaign add on playing as Norway and extra settlements, but the teutonic music was a bit scrappy so I went back.
lol
Vanilla means an unmodified version of the game. Stock standard straight out of the box.
No need to exploit the AI as they usually screw themselves over 9 times out of 10. The AI is already very weak, with exploits it is basically taking candy from a baby.
I play Retrofit, but there is nothing wrong with playing Vanilla.
One exploit I tend to use is the fact that the enemy AI tends to not pick siege weapons up if they drop them. I use this mainly when the enemy has a lot of ladders, etc, and I have minimal units.
