Anyone ever fail an invasion or a planned offensive?
I'd make this thread after my overseas invasion of Denmark (from England) turned into an absolute failure, mainly because I didn't scout ahead. See, I was feeling pretty good about England's chances. We were settled all over; a city in Spain, cities in north Europe, most of the Isles in English hands. On a side note, I left Scotland alone for as long as possible since I wanted the trade and Scotland's been nice to me so far.
So when Denmark took a navy invaded and attacked Nottingham, I retook the fortress a few years later and decided to retaliate and send a single army into Denmark. Thought it would be enough. But when I landed there the closest city was fully garrisoned and two other stacks were in the surrounding area. Tossing reason to the winds, I laid siege and was promptly attacked by two Danish armies (including trebuchets and feudal knights) next turn. So there I am, deep in enemy territory fighting in the blowing snow. I won the battle, miraculously (Crusader knights were a deciding factor), but right after that a third stack came to finish the job.
I had had enough, and fled back to the boats. On the way home a Danish navy caught up with my smaller navy and destroyed them. Army, general, and navy all gone.
