    Default Failed invasions

Anyone ever fail an invasion or a planned offensive?

I'd make this thread after my overseas invasion of Denmark (from England) turned into an absolute failure, mainly because I didn't scout ahead. See, I was feeling pretty good about England's chances. We were settled all over; a city in Spain, cities in north Europe, most of the Isles in English hands. On a side note, I left Scotland alone for as long as possible since I wanted the trade and Scotland's been nice to me so far.

So when Denmark took a navy invaded and attacked Nottingham, I retook the fortress a few years later and decided to retaliate and send a single army into Denmark. Thought it would be enough. But when I landed there the closest city was fully garrisoned and two other stacks were in the surrounding area. Tossing reason to the winds, I laid siege and was promptly attacked by two Danish armies (including trebuchets and feudal knights) next turn. So there I am, deep in enemy territory fighting in the blowing snow. I won the battle, miraculously (Crusader knights were a deciding factor), but right after that a third stack came to finish the job.

I had had enough, and fled back to the boats. On the way home a Danish navy caught up with my smaller navy and destroyed them. Army, general, and navy all gone.

Yes, I've had many failed invasions, Denmark to England, but I went back and slaughtered the English for killing my king.
England to Denmark, who killed 2 princes.
Also my Islamic Europe campaign with the Moors, I thought if I went for a weak spot (Portugal, Spain, Scotland) simultaneously I might pincer France, Scots was a push over a England had weakened them, and vice-versa, British Isles and Iberian Peninsula piece of cake. Then France managed to stop 4 stacks of Jihads going at their Capital and western Edge, but then I just thought all or nothing and sent my Iberian Legends and British survivors on them and took the out.

    Kill list
    England
    Scotland
    Spain
    Portugal
    France

    HRE
    Sicily
    Pope
    Milan
    Venice

What I didn't know was that the Pope and Venice had made a marriage alliance and had destroyed Poland, Hungary, Denmark and took most of Russia. I took Milan and Genoa from Milan and The western Edge and Bologna of HRE but then the Pope angry and sent the rest of the Europeans after me. I held them but then the Mongols came after my African base. That was the last of my campaign I quit for Hungary

i thought a crusade against milan would be a good idea (i was england, i had most of france, but was allies with them), so i sent a massive stack, full of elite knights and longbowmen, but it was no good, as in every battle i just got clogged down with spammed militias, it was a right farce.

I once tried to take out France in blitzkrieg. I sieged all their 4 settelments at once with 4 full stacked feudal knights and teutonic knights. Result was that i returned with max half stack alltogether and didnt get any settelments.

    First invasion was a failure.
With the english I failed in conquering denmark too actually
    .
since then, I make no invasions without seeing all of their regions and armies with spies, taking down all merhcants and diplomats, and then i literally take down the whole empire in 2-3 turns.
ONce with the byzantines I did this with england. 2 turns, BAM!
no more england or ireland or scotland. SS 6.0 for life

I played as Sicily, sent a 10-unit stack with a decent mix of early age cavalry, spearmen and catapults, to the Rebel settlement of Tunis, which had 5 units of peasants and peasant archers in it, shipped my men from Palermo, landed them next to Tunis - ambushed by a full Rebel stack with cavalry! Yay!

lol I had an EPIC failure with the invasion of Egypt, I captured most of Western Europe so I figured Id take a couple of full stacks into Jerusalem on a Crusade and expand from their, but well as posted in other threads I got tricked dubiously by a gift of a settlement, a Jihad and a revolution and on my way back something impossible happened, I had lost 2 genereals in the Holy LAnd and my last one with a couple armies boarded my ship (full stack) and left, out in the middle of the sea I got attacked by about a quarter stack of rebel ships and hey sunk my whole fleet :O:O:O:O

In SS, sent a French stack into England. Took London, but got sieged. I won the siege battle, but then I went and besieged Nottingham. Got owned by the relief army.

Did it again, but took Nottingham. Never lost it, but the army is getting weaker and weaker rom constand sieges,
    Men plan.

In vanilla, I was venice and I was playing conservatively. The mongols attacked egypt and turkey simultaneously, both my allies, and captured 6 settlements in 5 turns, so I called a crusade on Jerusalem. I sent one army marching through Asia minor, one army land in Egypt, and one army landed near Acre. All were full stacks led by 8-10 star generals. I came too late to save the turks, and Ceasarea fell the turn before the Northern army got there. The northern army managed to take Iconium, then got massacred in a field battle. The southern army captured Alexandria and Cairo, then was annihilated as the Mongols recaptured Cairo. Guess what happened to the Central army facing 1:8 odds? In all, I lost 3 of my best generals with full stacks.
    PHAIL!

No matter, I restored the game to before my defeat. The Central army ran around capturing Acre, Antioch, Aleppo, and damascus, and abandoning damascus, aleppo and antioch. The Northern army captured Iconium, and Caesearea, I built another stack from my settlements in Asia minor, and they took Adana and Antioch. The Southern army captured Alexandria, Cairo, and Gaza, before stopping. Egypt survived with just Dongola, while the Turks were wiped out.

    I had in asia:
Antioch, adana, Iconium, Caesarea, aleppo (besieged), acre (besieged), Egypt, and Gaza.

    They had:
Jerusalem, Damascus (their capital), Edessa, trebizond, Baghdad, Tbilisi, Yerevan

My northern army saved acre and let aleppo fall, my southern army recruited more units, and my central army ran to the south. I sent my southern army to take Jerusalem and my northern army to take aleppo (both succeeded). Their remaining high-dread, command, and piety generals and high experience and armor units regrouped around damascus. I fought an epic 4 stack vs. 4 stack battle (reinforcements delayed) outside the city, which I won. I exterminated Damascus, killing the last of the mongol threat. I made a ceasefire with the Mongols, because they were no longer a threat, and the Timurids had just arrived. In all, I killed 10 generals in this campaign, and killed at least 12 full stacks of mongols, while losing only 1 general. Success!

as venice, i had one stack of my most advanced and upgraded army, and decided to one-stack take the italian peninsula cuz the general was a family member i was grooming to be heir to restore the last of the original bloodline that was largely wiped out due to adoptions and lack of kids being born.
so i take milan and genoa, rest for a turn to retrain what i can, then i move to bologna and then florence. genoa had rome, and the pope was cheering me on as i called a crusade on rome and because my other 4 armies were busy holding off the other fronts of my empire, i only used the one guy. i took care of their standing army then came to rest just north of rome so i could attack the next turn, as i wanted other factions to join crusade to worsen their relations with the genosians.
so i wait and i come to a new round, and my general who was the last of the original doge's bloodline was assassinated.
and so my crusade army was stranded, as the genoasians had another stack drop in by water, i had to go around and engage that but was stopped by pope himself who was hiding in ambush, my army couldnt move to engage the army so it wouldnt attack while i was laying seige as i had to finish this in just one turn before they deserted, and failed. best and most expensive stack too mind you.
the hre took back rome, france tried but failed also, and hre took back bologna and france took milan. so my west front crumbled completely just 2 rounds later when florence rebeled and genoa was attacked and retaken by the remaining genoese stack
was sad that it all went wrong from just one assassin
