    Default Automatic Difficulty Adjustment...

I think you know what Im talking about. You start a new game and its pretty tough at first with low funding and tenious diplomatic relationships. After a hundred years or so youve got the world in your palm right? A vassal here, a few dozen more settlements there, your rollin the dough and everythings going great. Then for some bizare reason your whole nation breaks into civil war, a few settlements rebel, nations that have no feesable reason to attack you and in fact are dooming themselves to their other enemies by doing so try to invade you in silly little attacks.

Theres a chance this is common knowledge, but Im pretty sure there some kind of automatic difficulty adjustment that trys to keep you from doing well. I dont really mind, Ive been playing the game long enough that I know how to deal with all those things. But its just so damn annoying when spain attacks you, their peaceful neighbor and freind for 100 years as they are being invaded by the moors and portugese. And the best part is when they are in a situation like that, they'll pay you to declare a ceasefire without you having to lift a sword. lol.

The AI factions are scripted to attack you if you lead the rankings and are doing too well. If you keep this in mind, you can dominate the game without attracting the AI's attention.
