    Default Editing names and traits

Looking, looking and still looking for a "how to" mod my own characters, and add traits (not custom traits). To to be clear, I would like

    a. Make myself emperor (i.e. be able to give a character my own name, instead of only provided name)
    b. Give the new character (preferably with my name) all the wonderful and terrible attributes (traits) that I want.
    Done.

The best of course would be a tool that allows you to easily create custom characters. I such a tool does not exist, can someone direct me to "how to do" b. please?

Easy question; Will Brandon RTW Editor do the job?

Do you want to change the name of the faction leader with yours(oh, the ego! )before the game starts or after that? If it`s the first it`s relatively easy to do, but you`ll have to acknowledge that you`ll see yourself growing old and eventually... well..

Not if he plays on Alex...

Anyway, to give traits to any character, determine that character's name, then open up the rome shell ("cheat menu") by pressing ~ and type 'give_trait "character's name (in quotes)" "trait name" (from export_descr_character_traits) # (if you want a level after the first)'

    So for example:

    give_trait "Gaius Julius" GoodCommander 3

which should give the character Gaius Julius the trait "Superior Commander"

If the name doesn't work, look in text/names.txt to see if the internal version of the name is different somehow.

Expand your borders, a mod based on XGM 5.

You can add your name in the names files and in descr_strat.txt as a starting faction leader. In descr_names.txt you need to look for the section of the faction you want and add the name to the first list and the surname to the ... surnames list. Then you need to add them in the file names.txt following the example there and then you need to edit the descr_strat.txt to change the starting faction leader with your name. For example(replacing Flavius Julius from the romans julii in vanilla rtw):
    Code:
    character	Siddhi Surname, named character, leader, age 47, , x 89, y 82
And you also need to replace it in the relatives line bellow:
    Code:
relative Siddhi Surname, Faustina, Lucius Julius,	Quintus Julius,	Vibius Julius,	end
Then you need to make sure that the descendants (those having the Julius surname in this example are updated to have your surname next to their name).
Then remove the map.rwm file found in Rome - Total War/data/world/maps/base if you`re playing vanilla RTW so that it can be regenerated based on the new info when you start the game the next time. You`ll be on the map at the start of the campaign. The name and surname might be used by other future characters though. You might be able to avoid this, but it`s a bit more complicated.
If you need more than these very general directions ask.
