Default What would happen if flag burning was banned?

    We would then eat them.

    Throw poop.

    And drop our pants.

Is that really what anti flag-burners want?

(I know this is an old issue but I found these sweet pics... and Koreans do actually eat flags in place of burning them.)

I defy anybody not to find that hilarious. It's like a man angry he just got conned by the world's fastest prostitute.

Is that a Korean nationalist ripping up a Japanese flag?

In the case flag burning was banned, all other possible abuses of a nation's flag or insignia would be banned as well, so none of the above would be an option.

But I've got to admit that the photograph with the half-naked man standing above the flag is hilarious.

These acts fall in to the category of flag-desecration. So if a country bans flag desecration, these acts will be considered illegal.

    Thread fails.

    Edited insults.

Why would you feel the need to dismiss that? What information did you examine before you posted. Edited. That's my guess, because if you searched for this image you'd realize that it WAS because flag burning was illegal he bit the flag. I do not know the technicalities of korean law and civil liberties. I simply reiterated information. However I'd guess you aren't aware of the nuances of South Korean law either, and so Edited. Saying "Thread fails" is not funny if it in no way close to fails.

Don't feel embarrassed though. Edited. people often make this mistake of assuming condescension is humourous. Be aware though that you're just cluttering up the thread with unfunny and nonconstructive posts that no one desires.

The short answer -- some people will go to jail that would otherwise be free.

Flag burning is cool and trendy. I think I'll go do it now, and then slit my wrists.

    Be real.

Making flag-burning illegal would actually be a very non-patriotic act in these times of crisis. It would cost many jobs in the flag-producing industry.

For all people who understand German: Have a look at this hilarious satire:

"The cheapest form of pride however is national pride. For it reveals in the one thus afflicted the lack of individual qualities of which he could be proud, while he would not otherwise reach for what he shares with so many millions. He who possesses significant personal merits will rather recognise the defects of his own nation, as he has them constantly before his eyes, most clearly. But that poor blighter who has nothing in the world of which he can be proud, latches onto the last means of being proud, the nation to which he belongs to. Thus he recovers and is now in gratitude ready to defend with hands and feet all errors and follies which are its own."-- Arthur Schopenhauer

You need to calm down. I won't reply to your personal remarks in kind, as it's now up to the moderators to deal with that.
Only one thing: you are making this place unpleasant right now. Cheer up dude.
I was merely suggesting that if a country bans flag desecration instead of only flag burning, these acts will be illegal as well.
I am aware of the fact the Korea bans the burning.

You missed my point that you did it in an unpleasant way. Obviously we are all aware that flag burning was banned, what you seemed to miss was that this (and other alternatives) were commited in leiu of that.

    Post fails.

better idea: tear the flag up and use it to clean the insides of a porta-potty that has been used....frequently (and when i say insides, i mean the place you dont even want to look at)

I didn't miss your point you had no point other than ranting in an UNPLEASANT way.

Regarding the point of this thread...

Is that really what anti flag-burners want?
    Well, is that it?

    This is the Political Academy,
Use this forum to discuss political theory in the abstract, as opposed to particular events or individuals.
so you need to offer at least a valuable or interesting aspect of this topic, not just dump out 3 random - otherwise funny - pictures like people do in the Thema Devia.

    I don't understand flag burning.

Your not burning my flag, you bought that flag, your burning your own flag.
