Gregg asked for the spot a few weeks ago. Its a rather douchebag move to pull out now, but politically, giving up the incumbency of a republican seat in the senate did not sit well with the party. I heard quite a few rumblings from republicans that they didn't approve of Gregg lobbying to get the cabinet spot, leaving his seat vulnerable in the 2010 election.Obama sure has no skills at picking congressional appointees.
