Poster boy for egotistical European liberals living in America

I'm not sure if anyone's seen this before, but a recent episode of the American show Wife Swap featured the absolute poster boy for egotistical European liberals who hate America and 90 percent of Americans, yet make their fortunes living in the country.

For those who have never watched Wife Swap, the premise is simple. It's a reality show where two moms change lives and families for several weeks. Usually, the moms are complete opposites. In this case, a conservative Midwestern farming mom traded places with a super liberal, upper class family living in San Francisco. It's reality TV, so you'd expect there to be some fireworks. But the dad of the San Francisco family - Stephen Fowler - is an absolute pompous ass. He belittles the middle class mom at every turn, mocks everything about American culture and values, and even has the balls to tell her that he's glad her children will one day grow up to be cannon fodder in America's Nazi army. The best part - Mr. Fowler has made his fortune living in America. He loves to point out how cleaning his home is for underlings, and how he makes more in a day than most Americans make in a year, yet I'm sure that he wouldn't have near the wealth he has if he lived under the British tax system.

Oh, and he was so verbally cruel and abusive to his wife swap partner that he's being named "cruelest guy on television" and "worst husband in America."

Most of you know I have some liberal sympathies, especially when it comes to the environment. But guys like this make my blood boil. It's one thing to see problems with America, it's another to completely hate the country but stay here because you make lots of money. I met numerous people like this when I worked at Microsoft, and I wanted to throttle each and every one of them.

In an effort not to appear hypocritical I would hope that Ferrets, SorelusImperion, Tiwaz, and some of the other posters who made remarks about the from the OP not being representative of Europeans, would also make similar statements on the thread about the American evangelical lady too.

Generally I consider Americans as reasonable people and examples such as "Godwarrior" (I think most here remember her) aren't representative for Americans and/or Christians.

Look, I've lived in the UK for about a year. I recognize that there can be culture shocks and cultural conflict. But the woman who swapped lives with him was not rude or racist or uber-nationalist. Yes, she was overweight and a GED grad, but his attacks were still undeserving.

This kind of elitism is exactly why so many middle class Americans hate the rich, especially rich, holier than thou liberals. And if you want to spread a message that alternative energy and environmentalism is good (a message I too share), then it's not a good idea to antagonize millions of Americans on national TV.

How would you have felt if they took nice wife and family with liberal attitude and tossed wife to most narrowminded conservative redneck they could find?

It would be equally made up result for the show.

It would have been more interesting if they had found equally rabid but opposite attitude family to have real show of extremes.

It is not like Americans do not have way too high expectations of yourselves. After all, USA does like to try to pretend it is God appointed champion of freedom and justice. No matter what it does.

And expects rest of the world to comply. Just wee bit of humility never hurts anyone.

Those who realy want to give the thread some purpose should focus on the man's prejudices and ask the question why he did develope them and wether they are justified or not.

Yes it does make UK folks look bad and probably made some Americans no fans of the UK
