Only 1 tax system. Taxes from cities that you can set and taxes in castles that are always set at normal.

Taxes is from all settlements but there is a system to set the tax rate for the towns while the tax rate for the castles is fixed. Perhaps this difference is what you had read to be two systems.

You can let the AI manage the taxes if you are unsure. As previous posters have said, only one system of taxes but there are four levels of taxation. low, normal, high and very high.

Yes, there is the King's purse, which is the money that the King directly contributes to your treasury out of his own pocket. This is not considered tax.

Does the size of the King's Purse vary with the faction? With the difficulty level?

Yes it varies from 1500 to 3000 per turn depending on the faction. For the difficulty I don't know maybe someone could clarify that part.

I don't think difficulty levels matter (that) much.
I believe it has more to do with the size of your starting kingdom/empire. Milan for example has like 5000 king's purse and the HRE only 2000 or something. Balancing issues I believe

I agree but I think, not sure here but the AI receives more money in their King Purses when difficulty Levels are higher, this doesn't affect the player tough.
