    Default Another XGM diplomacy game?

I saw Unknown's thread awhile back and it looked awesome, despite it failing. Does someone else want to start a new one again? I don't think I have the time or the skill at aar's to do it.

    Anyone?

This is the problem. It's a great idea, but requires someone with the drive to keep it going, and time to keep people interested by posting updates fairly frequently (once a week or so). Unknown's was a good thought, but I think a straight gameplay AAR with more infrequent updates than normal, and having the readers decide the methods of expansion might work better (less interactive, and therefore more likely to continue).

If I do one, I was thinking that the senate/advisors meet once a year, or two turns.

Then they meet on Thurs, I play a year by saturday, then they meet again on sunday. I play by Wed, they meet on thurs. etc.

If you can keep with that pace, then it would work great.

And just do a straight up gameplay summary, no need to make up complex storylines unless you really want to.

Sounds great, I'm up for it.

Double X, if you feel you're not 100% confident, I'm more than happy to run the thing. Provided no one wants a storyline (the very, very hard bit), then there shouldn't be a problem in keep with your 2 years per week idea.

Here's what I'm not sure about - are battle auto-resolved or played out?

The storyline is difficult but describe it as a scribe. For the battles (played out) you could report it as an observer and take a picture of the end result (end battle scroll).

I could do it if you didn't want to, but my grammar is horrific and I feel it would degrade the aar.

Very well, as it seems you people need the help of a true tactician, a general who always finds victory and someone who knows how to gain money, I am willing to take up my seet in the Senate once again.

Oh and one more thing DF (sorry to be bothering you), since 2 turns = a week, you could hammer a decade in 5 weeks. So maybe a thread for each decade?

It's no bother at all. I was thinking more along the lines of Unknown Soldier's one thread per update; that way, each update consisting of your two turns (1 year) as opposed to Unknown Soldier's one turn (6 months).

If this diplomacy game becomes as popular as I think we all would like it to be, then I think having one thread containing 10 updates could make it rather hard to find individual updates (e.g. for people who wish to read through the past updates to see how far we've come or for people who join in later and and want to catch up on things). On the other hand, if we're hammering out two threads per week, I can envision this thing flooding the AAR subforum very, very quickly.

I suggest we simply go with you suggestion of 10 updates per thread first and see if popularity grows. After that, we'll consider spreading the updates out between threads a bit.
