    Question: Will the Lombards or nearby polities have access to the Normans as mercs at one point or another? Or will the Normans simply emerge and start wreaking havoc?

    Yes. When Lionheart landed in Cyprus the Roman ruler that declaired Cyprus as his own kingdom , launched a bolt againt Lionheart with a "Tzagra". Archery was always in decline. But crossbows were not unknown to Romans through the Arabs that used them frequently. Also there was still a version of Gastrafetes but it was a weapon for ship crews and also in decline.

    Yes both Romans of South Italy and Lombards will get access to "Early Nornan Knights" - nottice the word early- after the 1st Norman reconesence raid in south Italy before their maijor invasion. For the dates you need to read books.
    But playing TGC mod , inorder to win you must reach 1071 AD (the last turn) aka 796 turns. Playing TGC is a marathon with events that can spoil your victory conditions that last minute!
    In the meanwhile ussing Koultouras' Lombard skins and ussing or re-creating new 3d models Lombard will be brand new. Here is a teaser of their lammelar armor with a 3d lammelar on the unit.

    Ussing the previus expirience with Roman units lammelars will be separated parts from bodies. That way 4 lammelars and 4 bodies can make 16 combinations not including legs, helmets, weapons etc.

    Btw, the campaign is getting harder for the player.
    I´m currently finetune the Campaignsetting to provide a base for research in the upcomming alpha phase. It will be difficult, but not impossible to manage big empires like the bulgarian or roman empire. For middle factions like Eastern Frankia, Tulunids, Abasids and Aghlabids are more suitable and are good beginner factions. many of this factions have individual campaigns and quests. perhaps the hardest campaign are serbia (many big neighbours and not much space to conquer rebel settlements) and magyars. they face a big invasion of pechenegs with a choice to stay and fight or to migrate west.

    Inorder to win the Campaign you will have to complete some misions. Lombards start with one from turn 1!!!
    Then you will have to survive and keep you Kingdom's hardcore regions without any rebel or invador in them.
    Also you will need to Elliminate of make vassal factions that apear close to the end of the game.
    Lombards are quite easy to play if you think smart in the begining.
    The nightmare comes to Romans and Bulgarians that have HUGE empires but they have more dificult misions and have more enemies to eliminate.
    Than come the Islamic factions that one of their mission will be to become a Chaliph in the place of the Chaliph. Remember that Abasids "host" the legitimate Chaliph and all the rest are Emirs.
    Emirs were subjects of Chaliph but they were de-facto indipendend and always tried to unite Islam under their own dynasty. Their main enemies will be Romans and Lombards but few surprice enemies will apear in the process of the game.
    Next update will be the re-establishment of Lombard preview images with the new models and textures and the same time the Venice/Pope minor previews.

    Eastern franks for example need to conquer the grenzmarken + great parts of italy (iron crown) to become the Holy roman empire. they completly change into the HRE with new units and culture.

    Damn it was hard to remember the trick to have separated cuirasses from bodies like Absinthia taught me long ago.
    But it was a success. The old 2d textures of Lombards replaced with 3d body parts for maximum dedail.


    Credits:
    Koultouras from original textures and units.
    Absinthia for many lessons and few scale textures.
    Razor for the new heads.
    Leif Erikson and Paleologos for shield paterns.
    Now the units use 6 less textures and 6 less normal map ones, three less attachment textures and 3 less normal map of theirs making data a bit "lighter".

    Cavalry has two main lance/spear animation that cause diferent impacts.
    Markhaselb REPLACED the vanilla lance animation with a more accurate one.
    The unit you see above uses spear and the unit you see in this post uses lances.

    this impacts and unitmass are a reason why me2tw still feels better in battles than newer tw games. it hurt my eyes if i see cavalry riding through packed infantry like they didn´t exist.

    Beware though , inorder a cavalry unit to have such devastating impact to any infantry unit requires a lot of open space to charge and accelarate.
    Lombard King's bodyguards are on their way. The new scale has been done by Absinthia.
