    Default Hypaspists for Rome

    Hello,
Can some one tell me how to make the hypaspists available for the Romans (or any other conquering faction) in Greece via the local barracks? At the local barracks in gaul, romans get 3 units (spearman, cavalry, and heavy cavalry), but in greece rome gets none. But most importantly, I love Hypaspists.

First question: why? The Hyspasists are basically more expensive Roman style troops (same stats, everything). Plus, it goes against the AOR barracks system XGM has. Hyspasists are the 4th level barracks, the AOR baracks only go up to 3. Also consider the Hyspasists are the elites of the Successor states, so they wouldn't fight for a foreign country...

The normal Greek AOR is Doryphoroi, Thureopheuroi, then Hoplites at the third. Every civilized faction but Rome gets them. Just so you know that there is a proper AOR for the region.

Rome doesn't get the AOR because they historically wouldn't use the Greek troops in their style of fighting, they would just recruit them into the legions.

Oh, and I don't know how to mod them in. I just find it hard to stomach 4th level Hyspasists be being trained by Rome at a half cost/time lower level barracks then the Greeks, who, if you really like Hyspasists, you would be playing.

its stupid how the elite diadochs troops have the same stats as a roman legionnaire. theres nothing setting them apart. the agema hypapists arent that much stronger than the legions as well

What's the stupid part of it? Should the hypaspist be stronger or weaker then the legionaries? Or just the fact that they are similiar?

I dont know that much about the specific units and their role in combat, maybe you could explain ?

To Scrutarii: I only played rome and greece, so I didn't know that other factions got greek units. The main reason I play rome more than the greeks is because I hate phalanxs. I think I hate them because of having to fight hundreds of foot companions from the superpower macedon (at least in my first campaign). I had to fight Hypaspists too, but I didn't hate them for some reason :hmmm:

They should be much stronger than Legionairres, but in lower numbers. That can be represented well with lower unit sizes, methinks. And, historically, they probably weren't sword/javelins types of troops, more of a hoplite style elite unit (according to RTR and EB). RTR has them in the Hoplite formation that they use (underhand) and Eb has them overhand like XGM's hoplites are.

They're is an appendix on the Hyspasists in the XGM readme, I'd check that out.

the fact that the elite shock troops = normal roman troops

hypapists = legions. they are exactly the same except for the stats. however, since the ai gets 2 exp bonus, the legionnaires>hypapists. the cost of hypapists are higher than legions as well. not to mention they tier 4 or 5 compared to tier 3 legions.
