Stopping corruption. Build town halls, council chambers, increase your military garrison, move your capital to a more central location in your empire.

There is a guide to traits floating around on TWC somewhere. It has all the modifiers you need to get the traits you want and traits you want to avoid with your governors.

First and fore-most... if you have a city/town without at least a grain exchange in it, get your general out of it, NOW. They have something like a 30%+ chance of gaining "poor trader" line of traits for every turn they stay in a town without any form of market.

Next, keep your taxation at high or very high and have the order above 100%. This has a low chance of giving them good order and tax traits.

Keep the public works buildings flowing (town hall, church, sanitation, etc).

    Keep the town well garisoned.

Go out and get some chivalry. Chivalry grants all kinds of health and order bonuses to towns, and those help your general gain more good traits, which end up giving them more chivalry.

If your general leaves town, take at least 1 priest with them at all times in the army. This builds their piety, which does almost as much good as chivalry.

Make sure your general is IN town when good buildings finish. Churches and town halls are great sources for "chance on build" traits.

Above all, keep building. This is the hardest part. You must constantly be building. More importantly, don't spend all your time on 1 line of buildings, as the longer one goes without completion the less likely they are to gain good traits. Space a few short and good ones between the big ones.

If you have cities which focus on theology/trading/armoring (it is best to give cities/castles a main focus), make sure to visit them from time to time. The guilds can give good traits.

Marry them off to your family, specifically to princesses you have used in diplomacy so as to gain good traits, as this increases his happiness, loyalty, and can give all kinds of other goodies.

    good stuff guys
    keep em coming

problem is trying to strike a balance
if you keep the tax rate too high the governor will get the deep pockets or corrupt trait which is a real kicker for my economy

i once had a governor with good administrator trait which gave me bonuses in trade but over time at very high tax rate he got corrupt so i re-assigned him to a little town so his embezzling ways could be minimised

    thanks conquistador!!
for those reasons i tend to favour marriage proposals from those with good governor traits and good administrator traits

    No problem, hope I helped

It's always good to keep the good family members and reject the not so good ones. Personally if they have less than 5 loyalty I get rid of them.

regarding the governor who initially had 'superb administrator' trait.
he married into my family and i gavehim an honoured position as governor of the capitol but the embezzling prick got too greedy so i packed him off to rhodes which i had converted into a level 1 town
probably shoulda sent him to caffa

i once had a general lose some loyalty traits when i married a princess off to someone else, has this everhappened ot anyone else?

i figured he musta been in love with her

but marrying them both would seem kinda...incestuous no?

Most interesting. I have never experienced this phenomenon myself. I didn't know that family members could have loves for one another without being married. :hmmm:

Incest is bad and gives bad traits. I advise to avoid it at all costs. But I don't think you can have an incestuous relationship in MTW2 like in MTW.
