    Icon6 Papal faction idea

Ok, I started a campaign as the Holy Father, and I just started thinking. There is so much potencial! The pope was the head of states.
The Catholic faith was a real money-maker in Medieval times, and granted Rome with tons of $$$ from pilgrims, high-nobles and rich traders from all over europe. The Pope maybe holy within, but he is not stupid nor generous. Money was the sole reason.

    1. The Holy father can have his own missions from other catholic rulers or the top 3 Catholic cardinals: Example: Make Constantinople under Catholic rule.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Popes also contended with the cardinals, who sometimes attempted to assert the authority of councils over the pope's. Conciliar theory holds that the supreme authority of the church lies with a General Council, not with the pope.[16] Its foundations were laid early in the 13th century, and it culminated in the 15th century.[17]
    2. The pope need more control of Crusade.
    3. If the pope looses grip and authority with a faction: he can travel to their capital region and stay there for 1turn. The faction will stop killing other Catholic factions for 10 turns.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
In 1049, Leo IX became pope, at last a pope with the character to face the papacy's problems.[13] He traveled to the major cities of Europe to deal with the church's moral problems firsthand, notably the sale of church offices or services (simony) and clerical marriage and concubinage.[13] With his long journey, he restored the prestige of the Papacy in the north.[13]
    4. The pope can tax catholic churces: High, medium or low.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The pope was understood to have the power to draw on the "treasury" of merit built up by the saints and by Christ, so that he could grant indulgences, reducing one's time in purgatory.[14] The concept that a monetary fine or donation accompanied contrition, confession, and prayer eventually gave way to the common understanding that indulgences depended on a simple monetary contribution.[14] Popes condemned misunderstandings and abuses but were too pressed for income to exercise effective control over indulgences.[14]
    5. The pope can pay for a council with other catholic rulers. (Like the popup events: great banquet, tournoment).
    6. Excommunication. The pope sends his priest to a catholic capital, and if the prist don't get the Archbishop retinue, then you get the option to excommunicate thier faction (or threaten with it)
The reason that I think the pope can have "superpowers", is because he controled Europa at the time. And it would be awsome to realy have a go at it. One way or another... Just had to write this down...

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

When you excommunicate someone, you should have to go to war with them and vice versa. Also, you should be unable to aggressively expand without an antipope arising to try to usurp your authority. It may be impossible to implement, but it would be cool as hell.

how would you move the pope to a country without crossing other factions and destroying relations to them?

    Good question! Thats why..(either):

    • The best priest can do the job insted. (Retinue: Archbishop of Rome etc.)
    • Or: as the Papal faction got a relativly stable diplomatic relations. So if a diplomat can pay a sertin amount of money to the faction, as the pope is riding through, the relation will not budge. I do not know the correct amount of money, but I think this is a data, rather then a random number.
    Keep thoose questions rolling

it is against the nature of a pope to pay somebody for something (joke)

i like the priest idea though. thats cool.

i like the heiliges römisches reich mod and to crown a kaiser there u have to move your faction leader to rome. this is historical but sux in this game because u often nedd like 10 or 15 years to even get there without pissing off all o europe and by the time the kaiser is home he is almost ready to sleep in the basement of the dome of speyer forever if u catch my drift.

Here's an idea that could work for DLV in general, I wonder what you guys think of it. Make generals and governors able to move much faster than other units when they're by themselves. It makes sense if you think about it. A small party of nobles on horseback riding would be much faster than any army of any size, even mounted. This would also allow you to move your heirs and kings home faster when needed, which is very difficult during the Dark Ages due to unpredictable deaths from plague. I think it's a needed feature that would only change the game in positive aspects.

this would make the game a notch easier.

the dlv guild strongly opposes " a notch easier" ;-)

dlv addicts like to hurt themselves

Repman is practically the Domina of M2tw modding ;-)
