If your family controls the Senate the Senate will generally like you better, however, once the civil war starts the Senate becomes obsolete.

Senate offices = positive traits for family members. There are no disadvantages to holding Senate offices.

Primarilly it makes your family members better governors, some with bonuses to Law etc... as well management skill, and influence. Consul gives a bonus to command.

It's really quite random how the Senate apoints people to offices - the most obscure, unimportant family member can suddenly become an important senator, while your leader or heir can be in the political wilderness. Go figure.

Also, if the Senate threatans you, and you have someone in a Senate office, they will protect you.

There is one that says you will be audited. But if you have the Auditor as a member of you faction you will be good to go.

That's not true at all... The Senate missions, threats etc. function separately from the office titles. The offices are just there for role-playing value, and so CA can show they actually did some research.

Well said. In my experience, they bear no significance on the game whatsoever. All they seem to do is give your governors good traits both when they hold the office and when they advance to the next office.
