How do I go to America?

With my French Empire the year is about 1600 and I've taken over all the known world.

But I can't figure out how to go to America, my ships can't sail West enough. I can see that the map has extended with a black patch to the West though.

How do I got to America? Help me.

Thanks I have those near the Jerusalem area. Damn if only I'd thought to ask earlier, I've waited all this time and it now seems stupid going to America in such a late time period with myself and the Aztecs being the only faction in the game.

Thanks for the help anyway. How did everyone else figure this out? I just didn't have a clue.

U get carraack buy building Naval Dockyard.

I just tried to sail into west with every ship until it worked with carrack lol. And carrack description is that for ocean sailing. so...

been trying to go to america myslef, had the carricks and wondered why it wasnt working and have now just i realised I had some other non-carrick ships in the same navy...doh! So hopefully it will work when I try later and only sail with carricks!

I've never even had a campaign go on long enough to open up America, by the time it gets to the point where I'm guaranteed to win the game I get bored

Remember that there's only a few places on the coast you can land.

On the land mass with the Aztecs, it's in the north.

First you need the world is round event. You can then build the 4th level of harbors. In that harbor you can train ocean going ships.

well of course! have you never moved your in-game view over the west, where theres no border but a whole lot of black stuff? Theres only one explanation! AMERICA!

yes. select your admiral and type in the console create_unit "Admiral X" "carrack" 5
then disband the other ships, put your army on the carrack fleet and head west

I understand that you need the ships but how do i make the event "The world is round" happen, is there an event command?

if you create carracks you can sail west without the event happening. no you can't make it happen earlier than it is set

Well would there be an exact command for creating the units? Ive tried to create a unit called "Carrack" and "Carracks in the fleet of an admiral. Or should I just create a new admiral (how)?
