Default Bad Performance with Stainless Steel

    ahoi everyone,

got a question concerning huge fps-loss during battles when playing SS. I compared it to vanilla Kingdoms and i only get half of the fps in SS. I already searched the forum but couldnt find any solutions except gernerally lowering the graphic-settings but i already play on pretty low settings.

The question is, if its possible to disable some of the graphic-features of SS to come back to vanilla fps.

    Any suggestions?

    greetings

The only time I ever noticed an FPS difference in SS over vanilla was when I used the permanent arrows submod. Did you install the permanent arrows using the SS6.1 installer? That will always kill your FPS if you dont have a high-end PC.

    thanks for hte quick answer!

i dont think i installed it. Can i check in one of the cfg-files to be sure?

oh, and the fps is espacially dropping when sieging a town. As this is already known for vanilla but i think its even worse in ss. Did kingkong change the size and detail of the towns maybe?

Easiest way to check is to load a custom battle with some archer units and check if the arrows that hit the ground disappear or not

Not as far as I am aware.

HAHA! I thought the permanent arrows mean't that archers never ran out, I was wondering why they still lost their ammunition at some point... no FPS loss for me though.

one hates to say this but upping the spec of the PC can work wonders.

E8400 and HD4850 combo (with 8.10 drivers) got a siege battle with 4 attacking armies and defendng army (all attackers 1000+ men) was able to scan battlefield whilst just about everyone was moving - even looking down the line of attacking units attacking a gateway. only slight judder when panning quickly.

Oh sweet. That is my current rig but I've never tested it to that extreme. Might have to go have some fun now

Yeah I'm still using my on-board sound card. It's good but I'd feel more comfortable with an actual card in there.
