    Default Character Aging

Does SS6.1 still not use 6 month turns? This was my major gripe with the mod earlier...having 150-year old generals just ruined it for me. Otherwise, it was a pretty good mod, except that the unit variety seemed to me to be very limited if you played with all the options...another thing I did not like much about the mod.

I'd like to give this mod another try, but if these things haven't changed, I am not sure that I will.

SS uses 1.5 years per turn in the early era campaign and 1.0 years per turn in the late era. If you want there are a couple of submods that change this to 2 turns per year along with all the other things that need to be changed when you use that timescale. Check the submods forum for details.

i think he was refering to character aging, currently they need 2 turns to advance 1 year.

So was I. Because the rate that characters age is hardcoded, the only way you can synch them up (apart from a lot of messy scripting) is to set the game to 2 turns per year.

I never look at the years so I dont mind this. The years are extremely inaccurate either way.

It would take a long time to reach jerusalem from London on a crusade, but definatly not something like 20 years.

Sieges that last years would be extremely rare as well.

Training soldiers and building buildings seems accurate to some extend.. if they would destroy the old barracks to build better barracks instead of expanding it a little like is seen on the picture of the better barracks...

So with the sub-mod to correct this the numbers and the rate that the generals age would just like real life right?

Yes. The passage of time and aging would be at the same rate.

Can someone direct me to the appropriate sub-mod?

Also, what about the troop variety issue? I find using all the options offered at setup, you basically fight with armies with one or two types of units. Actually, given the overall lack of uniformity in medieval armies, more troop types ought to be encouraged, not discouraged.

    Thanks to those who responded.

Look (or do a search) through the submods forum

I assume you are talking about RealRecruitment and/or Byg's Grim Reality submods that you can install with 6.1. RR spaces out the availability of units to when they were historically available (so no plate armour in the 11th century). Byg's mod encourages you to think more about how to recruit and lead your armies. But it does take some getting used to. If you want, I suggest reading these two submods' threads in the submods forum to read up on how they function.

But if you dont want to use them, just reinstall 6.1 and dont select them. They're optional

Yes, I was referring to RealRecruitment and Byg's Grim reality. I like what they say in the descriptions, but in actual fact they tend to restrict the ability to recruit a variety of units and there seems no remedy for this.

Also, I have heard that there is a SS 6.2 out, but cannot find the download thread. Is there one?

I just loaded SS 6.0 and SS 6.1 and then the submod SS 6.2.

The SS 6.2 submod seems to have solved the troop variety issue, but not the date issue.

How can I change the date to 6 month turns so that characters age properly and still get realistic build times, etc?

I hate having 100+ year old characters...it just totally ruins it for me!

And, if someone could point me to the submods that alter the aging and build times, I would appreciate it. I've looked through about 10+ pages of submods and failed to find it. I was at the point where it seemed like the submods were for earlier versions of SS. Also, the search feature doesn't work worth a darn, either.

6.2 is an official release. It's just being done by Gracul with KK's blessing.

Thanks Caesar Clivus! Exactly what I was looking for.

Now I had a freeze during the siege of Milan using SS 6.2. Since that mod is not compatible with anything, maybe I'll revert to SS 6.1 and use these submods.
