    Default terrian combat modifiers

so today i was adding to my guide and i relized i hadnt worked out what the "combat bonus" thing was about So i checked descr_unit:

; stat_ground Combat modifiers on different ground types. From left to right
    ; scrub, sand, forest, snow

Well that makes sense becaue barbarian peasants who live in forested areas and are used to harsh terrian but have never been to the deasert have:

    stat_ground 2, -2, 3, 2

Thats 2 in scrub and -2 in sand 3 in forests and 2 in snow

desert peasants like egyptian peasants have:

    stat_ground 2, 2, -2, -2

which makes sense since they are from the desert.

    Cataphracts a cavalry unit have

    stat_ground 0, 1, -6, -1

So they suck in woods which they also did in mtw1, but oddly even tho they have tons of armor they get a small bonus in snow.

    camels have

    stat_ground 0, 2,-6,-2

since they are from the desert.

What I want to know is what do those modifiers mean? Is it extra attack or extra defence? or both or more morale?

    Thanks.

I just did some testing and they get a small damage increase depending on the number if the desert is +2 they get 1 attack for the bonus. and they dont get exhausted as fast.

im not sure because I just tried one unti of egypt peasants vs one unit of juli roman peasants and i as the egyptains won the battle in the grassy plain despite losing their captain right at the begining they killed about 100 lost 70

In arabian dunes i didnt lose my captain at the beigning and it was 110 killed 54 lost dunno if it's beacsue the capatin didnt die i lost less or because of the terrian

Both battles i didnt move my unit just let the enemy charge into me and let my unit move after themn automaticly etc.

It seems it could be a slight defense bonus im going to test grassy plain again and hope my captain doesnt die and see if i get the same results.

EDIT: tested it and got 114 kills 74 losses in the grassy plain it seem the diffrence is terrian. so it gives a defense bonus and maybe a morale bonus as the egyptains never went off eager in the desert tho they went to steady in the plain for a while.

It also proves the captain has no effect whatsoever since even when dead i got the same kills/loses. all he gives is a little morale.

I also noticed the egyptians start with their captain at the front of their peasant unit and the romans start with theirs at the rear. whats up with that :S

I think the grassy plain counts as desert by the AI. Isnt there a map callen British grassland in vanilla. Try your peasants there, I think you will get different result.

Aradan has already extensively tested most battle elements, some of which are written in the Complete EDU Guide here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=111344
