Default Winning as one of the houses

hey, when you play one of the 3 families, do you have to conquer rome to win, or just have the highest position in romes senate? and do the other families ever attack you unprovoked?

also, the economy works differnt then in medival 2, what would you recommend to build early as the julius family?

Well as I have been playin Brutii for the first time I guess I can answer this. You need to hold Rome there are two ways of this. One is taking Rome when you have support from the Plebians, two is becoming the leader which is done by taking over everything and being the senates puppet. If you fail to accept the killing of your faction leader you will be outlawed and forced to fight Rome.

As for the economy I would churn out alot of Hastati and Archers if your the Julii that is. Brutii I would go for more cavalry.

    No... your their puppet lol.

Scipii I have not played as yet but your first job should be to make a Naval fleet large enough to invade Egypt. Should the egyptians come to power you will have alot of trouble.

Well the victory conditions for all factions are to hold Rome and 50 other provinces. For other factions, this is rather easy in terms of the process, cos you just try to smash through the other factions so you get Rome and the other provinces. However, as a Roman family, you will need to do the conquering first and get enough popularity with the people. Once that is rather high the Senate will ask you to assassinate your faction leader or something. Once you refuse this the civil war starts. Otherwise, you can do it yourself by attacking the Senate or one of the other families.

As for unprovoked attacking, yes they do it, but only if you are a very slow player, and they get to a position where they are a lot stronger than you. I don't think I've ever seen the Senate attack any other family though.

is the civil war with all the families? or just SPQR? and what difference does it make if the ppl of rome love you or hate you (the ppl not the senate)
and what happens if you do assassinate your faction leader?

The civil war is with all the families, so make sure you are prepared! If you want to attack Rome (the Senate) or one of the other family members you have to have enough support from the common people. If you assassinate your leader then you buy yourself a few more turns to build up your strength to take Rome.

One time, just to see what would happen, I assassinated my leader. Next turn, I was ordered to assassinate my leader again, so I did, then the next turn the same thing... I did it like five times before I finally said enough! I re-loaded my last save, before I killed my first leader, and declared war on Rome.

If someone was to rise up and take control of a country without the support of the people, the new leader would be overthrown, or the country would fall into disarry, or some other bad stuff. If the people don't support you, you'd have nobody to fight for you or keep your empire going, so you'd fall pretty quick.
So you can't attack until it's high enough.

hey, i am having trouble playing one of the 3 houses. the scipii have to put up with kartago, which becomes pretty damn strong, the bruti have to put up with the greeks and the julius have to spread FAR. which house would you recommend for someone trying to beat the game for the first time

Julii have the easiest campaign battle wise, 'cause their enemies are barbarians, and really weak. But, see as they take barbarian lands, takes longer to get a good economy going compared to the other two.
Might just be me, but I think the Scipii have better cavalry somehow. And I like their campaign. Killing elephants FTW.
The Brutii have to take out Greece, but you're the Romans, who are stupidly powerful, so if you attack quickly, you can bring down greece with no real trouble.

Any of the 3 is a good choice. Pick if you want to kill pointy sticks (Julii), very long pointy sticks (Brutii), or big hunks of meant with sticks near the mouth (Scipii)

Naa I say brutii. With Julii youll have to deal with Falxmen and chariots. Brutii you have to deal with Phalanx... we all know Roman armour works well against that.

I would say out of all the roman families i like the brutii the most: they get that very awesome greek peninsula (probably the single best money generator in the game). However it's not for the faint of heart, as phalanx fighting can get down and dirty.

the trick is to always try to out number and outmaneuver them. Getting a single squad of equites behind a phalanx formation often spells defeat for them.

Not when you versing our Spartan friends

I loved fighting them I did. They came at me with some Hoplite friends and then I launched my Triarii at them with Velites backing them. Drawed the Spartans to the town center and had them surrounded by an whole army. They were cut down in a matter of seconds
