I was just wondering, does Kingdoms need to be patched for this mod to work?
I don't think I had patched mine and Stainless steel doesn't appear to work for me at the moment.
I should probably patch it anyway, just wondered.
Cheers

I have Kingdoms patched (ashamed to admit that I played Apache yesterday and quite enjoyed it) but I think it doesn't matter. Patch for Kingdoms was intended only to fix minicampaigns from that expansion, not the general game. See its changelog.
I believe it has zero impact on SS.
Unless you play the Kingdoms campaigns I would advise against it.
A lot of the patches can be a headache with corruption errors. Every time I have tried to install the patch I get an error (on a clean install) and if I try doing it a few times, the error goes away but then SS crashes.
It appears that if you receive any sort of error message during installation or patching, you need to uninstall everything and restart an installation from scratch.
It took me four hours to get Stainless Steel up and running on an absolutely clean install from brand new discs (as in I went to EB Games and bought some legit disks this week). Apparently the problem lies in how the installation/patching programme goes toif there's an memory problems.
I would advise to patch the game to v 1.5. One important thing that the patch fixes but that seems to be undocumented is the infamouse 'broken cavalry charge'. In vanilla (and still in version 1.3) cavalry would frequently break charge before hitting the target. Charges are much more consistent in v 1.5.
Thanks for the replies,
I did patch Kingdoms in the end, although I discovered this wasn't the problem anyhow. I dunno what is, but I can play stainless steel. Just, sometimes, in the menu's for starting campaigns or custom battles, the mod randomly crashes to desktop. I'm too lazy to see if this is a common problem
*however* I got a campaign started and once in the cam map it worked perfectly. Very well crafted mod. Looking forward to playing some more later (I'm norway, atm... very poor, moneywise)
I can put up with the random crash to desktop as long as it doesn't happen in campaign (especially after a heroic victory... damn vanilla kingdoms.)![]()
