lol HD4870 is better and more expensive...

And noise... DEPENDS ALOT on which version you planning to buy!

New Sapphire HD4870 turns @ stock @ 30% speed and makes absolutelly no noise
Comparing that to the earlier "red one" will reveal the last one makes way more noise and heat...

Search for a model you like and search on the internet if it makes noise

    Personally I don't give a about noise.

I crank up fanspeeds to 70-80% and watch the temps drop as I OC the crap out of my cards

The point is I have not that bad card with dual fans, easily compatible to Sapphire ATi Radeon HD 4850 512MB,but can't stand the noise it makes and therefore
try to find less sounding option
**New Sapphire HD4870 turns @ stock @ 30% speed and makes absolutelly no noise***-that's why I'd check on this one .

P.S. I Googled some and got info that Sapphire HD4870 512MB is not that good

or even kind of big problem if you don't do some operations

something like flash. asus TOP bios tex with fixed fans settings something.
Otherwise people have serious problems with that

I know what you mean, but I myself didn't encounter such things neither did some of my friends...

*and I'm speaking of the 1GB that is * I never encounter any noise-problems and does its job mainly (if not all the time) it's work @ 30% (or somewhere around that), except when booting up... by booting up it speeds for around 2 seconds full (is normal because it checkes if it functions full speed) and thereafter normal again...

I only speak for me and 2 of my friends when saying never ancounter problems with this GPU and noise in special So not claiming for al HD4870's worldwide

Well I have decided to buy passive cooling card
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4850 1GB

I think it would irritated me not with its noise as my current 3850X2
