Default Advice Please: Directx 10 has made my Laptop Overheat

Hi... Directx 10 snuck onto my Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi Dual Core, with ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 512MB Hypermemory (and 4 GB of Ram) this xmas.

Well it didnt sneak, but every since it did I have been getting shut down with any graphics based application due to overheating.

    1) Do you think this damage is permanent and its a hardware issue?
    2) Is there anyway I can successfull rollback Directx and fix the problem (I tried installing 9.25 windows version but that didnt help)
    3) Overheating happens with all graphics games even Mount and Blade which didnt cause a problem before.

Any advice please? Would really appreciate it and dont want to have to get a new laptop now....

direct x 10 dosent just appear on your system, if you have vista you have it by default and a x1600 dosen't support dx10 anyway. Overheating would be caused by excess dust, faulty/clogged fans, dodgy heat sinks or beibng in a hot environment.

THanks I installed it on purpose... not aware x1600 doesnt support (had worked well enough for me for 2 years...)

Fan was cleaned recently (1 month ago) creamed and yes the winter house heating could make it worse.

I have Windows XP no dx10.... What could I do Doono?

The laptop was always a heat monster... but I would be happy to revert to dx10....

    Bump... can anyone help?

How to rip out Directx 10 without reinstalling and only use 9...

How to check my version in fact?

i dont understand how you installed dx10 on xp, it does not exist for xp officially on;y via some dodgy programming attempt which dosen't work very well and is very complicated to install.

To check which version you are running go to start > run > type "dxdiag" without quotes and look under the system tab towards the bottom it will tell you the version of dx you are running.

check the temprature on the chip if you can using some sort of software, if it's showing very warm tempratures invest in a cooling pad.
