    Default Gunpowder frustration! Help!

    Hello everyone!

So I was playing Portugal with the Retrofit mod, namely because I wanted to watch their arquebusiers and aventuros shine. However, I noticed that are constantly cycling to get into position even though they are situated in a two-man line!!

Now, I have read that vanilla gunpowder units were buggy, and I am desperately trying to fix the bug. I could have -sworn- that when I was playing Spain, the musketeer double-line would act like this: the front line would shoot, crouch, and then stand up after the back-line shot. I don't know what is going on?! It seems like ever since I beat the short-campaign with Portugal and unlocked all of the other factions, the gunpowder units in that campaign, my other same games, and even in the custom battles have reverted to the suckier 'cycling' action!

I am at a loss and I desperately need some help. Are there any other mods out there that can fix this?!

The only solution for this is to remove the fire_by_rank attribute in the EDU (export_descr_unit). This will make them fire like camelgunners (standing still) and they no longer perform their redeploying moves.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

Fire by rank is bugged beyond belief. Don't use it.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

    Thanks for your replies.

How do I go about removing it?

Actually, I noticed that the Byzantine Gunners in the crusades campaign fire in the manner that I described earlier, and it is very ideal. How can I mod the game to where all the other gunners fire like the Byzantine Gunners?

Ah, I see. Well, not to sound completely hard-headed, but I don't even know how to go about removing that command line. I've never modded a game before, so this would definitely be a new experience for me. Are there any resources out there that would be good for a crash-course experience in modding?

That looks great. :o I'm no modder myself so I'm hoping that someone would be able to incorporate this into a mod or just a standalone file download. ^_^

in M2TW\data\export_descr_unit (you may have to unpack it)
do a search (CTRL+F) for portuguese arquebusiers
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    type Portuguese Arquebusiers
    dictionary Portuguese_Arquebusiers ; Portuguese Arquebusiers
    category infantry
    class missile
    voice_type Light
    banner faction main_missile
    banner holy crusade
    soldier Portuguese_Arquebusiers, 48, 0, 1
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, very_hardy, can_withdraw, gunpowder_unit, fire_by_rank, start_not_skirmishing, gunmen

Hey, thanks axnsan. Last night, I found some stuff that told me about how to unpack the files and etc. I unpacked it, but the unpacked files did not show up in my data folder. Talk about frustrating! I am going to play with it a little more, but I'm on the verge of washing my hands of this mess.

Exia, I am glad that you thought that was as cool as I thought it was. I am all about someone incorporating that into a mod! I'd definitely play it!

If i'm correct "Thera, A new Beginning" has properly working gunpowder (as well as working pikemen)

but it is a very different mod then usuall...
E:TW's natives have developed a new "Ballistic Automatic Detection And Seeking System" to utterly annihilate any European that sets foot on their soil... That's BADASS for short!

Lemme guess, you're using Vista? If so, check out this thread and read posts #4 onwards. That should help a lot.

If you're not using Vista, it'd still be worthwhile to check out that support forum if for some reason you experience a bug because of the unpacking.
