Default Protests in Russia amid falling Russian economy.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/01/wo...russia.html?hp
The group waved flags and shouted “Down with the police state!” and “Russia without Putin,”
Interesting. Perhaps Putin's grip on power is not as strong as the west thinks.

That's great. But that's not what this thread's about. It's about the Russian populace not being 100% behind Putin amid Russia's falling economy. And the protests of course.

Small minority unfortunately. We'll see, if things get worse, it's possible an extremist group could get to power. The communists and ultra-nationalists aren't that happy with Putin either.

In your dreams. What is it with this myth that Russian nukes are easy to snatch? Wtf? And it's incredible on what a level of delusion people are on. Putin isn't even in charge, and he is called tyrant..

PS. Why is this protest a big deal? It is absolutely nothing compared to other European ones, especially that one in Estonia, where hundreds of people went amok.

Russian government is not going to fall on account of Eduard Limonov and a few communists all the way in Vladivostok. "Russia without Putin?" That is a Kasparov slogan. I wish this brand of opposition would just shut the up. Communists want to solve financial problem by returning to central economic model? I dont really like Putin all that much, but he is more competent than Eduard Limonov (who states quite clearly that he would invade all former soviet states), the communists, and the puppet Kasparov. Truly we have horrible choices.

I'll take the 'tyrant' Medvedev (Putin) over the communists or the racist fascists any day.

Doesn't have to be. Merely throwing money at poor people if they promist to protest would certainly be incentive enough for them to start spouting anit-putin slogans.

heck, if you told me you'd give me 100 bucks just to protest mcdonalds, I'd go out there and do it. And I LOVE mickey d's!

It's really a test to our dear power. Will they deal with economical situation? What cost? We'll see.
On the other hand, those "oppositioners" tries to get more support at any cost, because their support now not far from zero. No one of them have somekind of action programm, we don't know who are they - socialists, comunists, pro-capitralist conservators... Their single platform - Putin go away!
Meantime our country dire neds a real opposition. Not "opposition" like LDPR of Zhirinovsky, or prank-opositioner Lemonov, and so on. Rulling party, a join team of corrupters and thiefs must be balanced. But we have no such candidate today.

Current "Putin system" does not allow real opposition. As long as some newspapers like "Kommersant" or radio station like "Ehhy planety" do not get substantial influence, they can exist.

Ppl in Russia are either banking dollars or buying primary commodity goods for rubles because of ruble is dropping like a stone and inflation is galloping...

When goes down everyone protests and blaims government. I don't see any better alternative to Putin thou. Kasparov is clearly a pro-US dissident. Zherenovsky is good as stand up comedian rather than a politician. And Russian Comunist party is a social democratic party which uses communist symbols to attract votes of all the left-wing and elderly people.
The communists and ultra-nationalists aren't that happy with Putin either.
Russia doesn't have a strong communist party. And I have no idea whom do you call "ultra-nationalists", but if you mean chechens, than their society is more secular than it was in 1990s and its been very stable since.
