    Default Vista or not?

    Hello fellow basement creatures!

So I had this problem earlier (freezes and hangups) with my PC and I sent it back to the factory, and apparently they confirmed the problem to be the motherboard (They switched my MSI for a Gigabyte!. Quite an upgrade.). The computer was returned to me today.

Well now to explain the Vista thing. In order to diagnose what causing the freezes, they stressed all the components and cleaned my HDD.
After booting the computer today, the HDD now has a Vista installed that I only need to configure to use.

So far XP has been my OS, do you think I should try the Vista home premium?
    What horrors can I encounter?

Also skipped Vista. We're all looking forward to Windows Seven, but this is an opportunity to at least try Vista.
It's very likely I'll install XP eventually again.

Why skipping Vista when he has a new rig now?

I never had any problems with it (got 4!! different OEM-versions) on for like 6 rigs... you should just know what you are doing and not trying to install hardware for like 8 years or so... aside from Windows 7 the best OS I used (and I DO use Linux)...
Just get Vista as well as Windows 7 Got windows 7 also and is like a dream, just as Vista is...
in my view both are better then XP (used XP also alot), only for running tests it isn't the best around

I don't see whats so bad about Vista. Sure it might not run some older games correctly, but I personally haven't ran into any issues otherwise (And I'm on 64bit Vista)

I live and swear by Vista, without it I cant live

Old games work for me (Starcraft, Command and Conquer), So I dont see a problem there.

Havnt had any problems with it yet, probably because Vista fixes most problems itself.

I get put off upgrading OS's for the same reason, I just don’t want to lose support for playing older games. Even with Windows XP I still find it hard to get some of my older games to run,

Wing Commander 4 DVD edition was a pain in the butt to fix (but when it worked the quality of the cut scenes were well worth it), Theme Park World needs some sort of font patch, Thief 2 is hit and miss and Thief 1 is just as hard. The only sure way to get older games to work is to run DosBox.

The think is all the games I’ve mentioned above have been fixed ‘eventually’, I looking to get Windows 7 this year but I don’t want to have to wait 4 years for a work round to play Wing Commander 4 on Windows 7.

From my experience having Vista since September on my new Laptop, i'd have much preferred XP. Though, Vista isn't that bad, I just find XP works better and complains at me less, and there's not really enough out there that you'd gain from having DX10. I'd wait for 7.

I went and thought I'd install the 7 Beta for fun, but got some error message during the install process and it was terminated.
So I ended up with XP.

i have vista, and it works great. i installed m2 and the grand unit addon mod, and the retrofit mod as well. it works perfectly, and is much cooler than xp. you should stay with vista.
